Who has an "AL Mar" Knife..?

I got this a while back and never found out what model it was .Very nice knife easily the sharpest knife I own .

I like Al Mar knives, and even owned a few. That said, I'm done with them. The fit and finish were perfect; they were sharp; and they were nice to look at. But I can NOT justify spending around $100 for a knife made of AUS-8. I can get S30V or ZDP-189 at that price, when a lot of the AUS-8 knives I own only costed me about $20-$35 and have the same funtionality of the Al Mar.

When I started to read this thread, I immediately went to Al Mar's website to look around. When I saw $150+ for AUS-8 steel, i decided no way. I won't trade value for looks, no matter how pretty it is.

I have a Falcon, and a quick silver. I also bought a stainless one on Ebay with a broken tip. I grinded the spine down to where it is not noticeable. I like Al Mar, especially the 80's models. Steel quality aside, great knife. Sometimes it is nice to sharpen steel that does not take awhile to get it where you want it. AUS-8 is great if you want to touch it up frequently to keep it razor sharp, nothing wrong with that at all. Form is nice on Al Mars. I will spend the money on them every now and then.

I have one of the first Mini SERE 2000s that were made and I absolutely LOVE it. The fit and finish on it is absolutely amazing! I'll post some pics in a little bit.

First expensive knife i ever bought was an AL mar.Beautifully made knives.Ive owned a mini sere, sere 2000 (which i snapped) and a SOG bowie.I still have my Alaskan Bowie(coffin handle)and a USMC special combat...R.I.P AL MAR

i still have one of the old lock back SEREs that came with no pocket clip and a sheath, its bigger and heavier than the SERE of today, IIRC i got mine new in the mid '80s, and it wasnt cheap, ~$150 or so, a lotta $ for a knife in those days lol, i only carried it a time or 2 and then got a spyderco poilce and liked it better for a edc knife, mostly due to the pocket clip, so the SERE has been sitting in my safe for, oh 25 yrs or so, and i have had a few SERE 2000's too, but have always swapped them off for something else, they are a good well made knife though with great F&F.

Hi, First post here.. and not yet a collector for say..
I just made my first impulse buy in the realm of large Bowies and got an SF-10.
But to my surprise The Blade did not bear the red logo, although it has the Al Mar brand and seki Japan on the other side
I believe it to be genuine, but could someone please shed light on this particular production variant.
Tnx.

that early 80's falcon is way cool and I like thin handles , are the new ones as thin? just wondering.

I have a SERE 2000 with the black coating that I bought several years ago. It's a great knife, except that something went wrong with the action, maybe the detent ball or something. One day, something suddenly no longer lined up right, and now the closed retention is bad and the lockup is not as good as before, and the action feels very off, with absolutely zero hard use and little use, period. I tried contacting them before, but got no response. One of these days, I'll just give 'em a call and see what can be done to fix it.

I have the Al Mar Eagle Ultra-lite, got it on sale at Smokey Mountain for $70. It has an AUS 8 steel blade but it came extremely sharp, it has a strong spring so deployment is not real fast but it is well made and where can you get a 2 oz. knife with a 4" blade?

I have the Al Mar Eagle, Falcon and Hawk, all with white micarta and
bought in the early 80's.

I have one of the Shrike's I got way back when. Great knife, but for some reason I never carry it. Might have to change that today.

I have an Operator SRO-V that I got last year. Used it to gut a big boar I shot this summer and it split the ribs like butter. When I win the lottery, I'll buy a Shiva. Saw one in a shop one time and was awed by it.

I've only had the mini & full size Sere 2000s. They were very well made knives, but on the heavy side for my tastes.

Just received the Al Mar Shiva today and I have to say that it is a great knife, very sharp. I've read other reviews that spoke poorly of this knife but now that I have it I must say that I strongly disagree. Some guys like a lot of weight in their hand when they hold a knife, which I do understand, but this knife isn't a "chopper". The Al Mar Shiva is a high quality knife that is also quite light but it appears to made for slicing/cutting. Having said that I really like this knife I certainly don't think it is worth $300 or more as is often advertised. I got mine for less than $300 but not much less... what can I say, I'm a sucker for good knives. As far as the sheath goes, a little less quality than I expected for the overall price but still a decent sheath. Overall assessment, the Al Mar Shiva is a great knife.
