Who has found THE knife?

I am such a knifeaholic, I don't know if THE knife exists for me!!! There is always the "next" knife that I want...........

THE knife for me so far has been my Buck 110. I have alot of other knives that would seem more practical to carry and use but i feel utterly helpless without my 110.

Although it's logical to think that we will never find "the knife" that ends our search, this did happen for me w/r/t shooting. I tried lots and lots of pistols, buying, trading, and selling like we all do with knives, until one day I finally got my Ted Yost custom 1911, built on a Colt per my specs, and I haven't even felt the slightest urge to look at anything else. It's been more than a year, so it's not a fleeting thing either.

So, hey, it can happen.

After wrestling with the same dilemma, I realized that in the knife world as in life, it's the JOURNEY not the DESTINATION. All we can do is enjoy the trip.

Shmackey, there are other 'hobbies' that can be as obsessive as knives, guns are one, another that I use to have was Watches, but, like you, I found THE watch and have since not looked for another to take it's place.
The watch is a Swiss Army Officer's watch, stainless model, worn on a Don Juan band which is a stainless bracelet that snaps onto your wrist. Love that watch for it's ease of reading and clean look.

So that one is behind me, luckily!

For me, it is still my large Regular Sebenza. If not that, my Microtech LCC MA does the trick nicely. I would feel quite comfortbale roaming the earth with either as my "one" knife.

Smiles and Sharp Objects!!!

i think i found THE knife... for going out in the forest...
The winner is .....
SAK trailmaster ! (yes, not even a custom !) :D

but as EDC for usual life in town, still looking for !
For the moment, custom "bon vent" from Descy or good old BM940.... or plenty others !

I have had a Case Canoe in my pocket for the last 6 months or so and I cant see it leaving. It fills so many criteria that I look for in a knife. One its a slip joint, it needs some looking after and takes a polishing really well. It's capable of everything I have to do with a pocket knife and it cuts extremely well now its been reprofiled down to about 16 deg.

I usually carry it in a home made slip pouch that I use to polish it with, take it out, admire the gleem and back for more polishing, not only does it cut it passifies :D. Maybe when the money or chance comes along a Bose folder may be in the offing, but for the moment I can't justify the cost or the wait.

I reckon I have - well I've stopped looking in the last year anyway.

The sypderco Native III just kind of snuck up on me - It's not a sexy high dollar custom but it wins every time for day to day EDC.

I use a Military or fixed blade when I go bush of course......

The Microtech LLC D/A comes pretty damn close to "The Knife" for me, but it's still a bit off. It needs to be slimmer, more slender, and a bit lighter, but it's damn close. As close as I've found anyway.

There are too many whoosy answers in this tread. Like "I love them all and can never get enough, etc. etc.", IMHO. Just junking up the thread. Come on. Everyone has a favorite. Be specific.

For EDC (not hunting) I have a Mel Fassio (a Montana knife maker) custom folder that has a bolster release (an auto) and an ivory handle. And, I'm the only one who has one!!! It was a gift from the Dragon Lady (queen of the castle).

It is a user even though it has alot of class.

I also have several Protechs which give the Fassio a good run for the money!

Listen to the "whack" when he opens these Godfather model Protechs. Gotta luv it!

One of them is Devastator by RJ Martin, the other is Torrent by Derek Fraley. If I buy another folder it will have flipper and most likely be from either of the two knifemakers.

Edited: Add Fer De Lance and BM710 for production folders and Camillus Talon (Simonich design) for FB

I am getting closer, since I joined bf I have had the chance to play with lots of knives but the Spyderco para military has taken firm hold as my perfect EDC. I back that up with some sort of SAK, haven't figured out which is ideal but currently its either a mountaineer or compact and though I would like to upgrade my Busse basic 3 to one of there other models, AD or BA I am fairly confident that a small Busse will fill the role for ideal small fb. As my knife addiction is more based around finding the perfect tool I thinjk I may be able to find the "ones" but that said I will always want something new to play with and gawk at and drool over even if it doesn't end up staying for ever and ever.

Haven't found one yet but i can tell you what i want.

The boker classic buffalo water horn with V30S or VG10 Blade + a thumb assist opening twist.

Seriously i amnot asking too much. I love the boker classic's look, feel, build. But the 440C truely only shine, nice looking i can't even cut myself by accident. Some customs are just "designed" too much.

But hey, but I own 5 boker classic. Is there a custom good knifesmith can recreate a blade that is the same shape but with V30 steel and install for me? How much will the job is gonna cost?

I would have to say for now it would be my SOCOM from 98. I just like it. As for handguns it is my Colt CCO when they first came out like 94 or 95 and the same goes for my snubbie. A Rossi M971 I think. 2.5" ss power house. Pinned everything just like the old Smiths. Matter of fact it was made on S&W machinery that Rossi purchased, at least that is what I hear. I just likem and haven't purchased a handgun since either of these so it has been a while. They just work and work well. keepem sharp

In my Forever search, I have often thought I've finally FOUND IT, THE one knife I have always wanted...only to find the lure or feeling pass and the search continue. So my question is, has ANYONE ever FINALLY gotten THE one knife that ended their search?

Good thread.

There are some/most who think they've found the one(s).
Then there are those who know they've found the one......
that is until the next knife :D

This is a fun, but probably a futile question to ask a bunch of knife-aholics -
since by definition this affliction is about always trying to find the ideal/perfect knife -
which as we know does not exist...
but doesn't prevent us from continuously trying ;)

I certainly cannot claim to have found "the one"
BUT the practical evidence may mean I have settled on the one(s) -

My out of the house/away from home EDC
Scientist2.jpg

It's a humble Victorinox Scientist with customized handles - that I've EDC since Feb/1993..... see this -

My EDC Story - Victorinox Combo Tool Story

But at home I EDC this -
EDC_home8.jpg

I've EDC at home a Kershaw/Ken Onion LEEK since I first got one around Feb/2003 -
currently it's a Black "boron" Leek

For evidence of what people think is the one compared to what they actually EDC and change - see this behemoth thread......

Yes, the swamp rat trap!

The knife thats great for almost everything (except chopping down trees) :D

It's interesting to see this thread resurface. My "the one" from three years ago is still going strong.

Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx 4" spearpoint recurve in Talonite

I did end up swapping my Camillus Maxx Bowie for a Camillus Aftermath, but nothing else has changed.

I didn't reply to this thread 3 years ago, but now I have to say that I might have the ONE. It was always a continuing search for "Mrs. Right" and I would settle for "Mrs. Right Now" in the meantime, but I have come to realize that Mrs. Right Now has always been the same knife. There are a few modifications I would still like to make, and I will eventually get around to that, but my Mrs. Right (The ONE) is my MT LCC D/A. That's the one knife I would cry over if I lost.

It's not perfect, but is more so than any other folder I've yet owned. I will always be accumulating more knives, but none will take the LCC's place.
