Who has Served?

I grew up at Fort Bragg, NC (when the family wasn't stationed overseas). The family was made up of generations of Army officers and when my time came I did the only thing I could do. I joined as an enlisted man in the Navy. 1969-1972 The only combat I saw was when I would come home for leave.

US Army: Summer 2001-???

Active Duty posts:
MacArthur Short Barracks
Camp Buckner
Fort Knox (one beautiful week)
Grant Barracks, 32nd and 34th Divisions

Looking forward to Jump or SRT School this summer, and hopefully getting to some place interesting before too long. In an Abrams.

Currently active duty Coast Guard since 1977. Chief Petty Officer - soon to walk across the brow around the end of August with 26 years behind me.

US Army 1968 - 1970, 173d Airborne.

Hey Coastie, some of your compatriots in Nam gave our company a ride up the coast for a night amphibious landing. Based on French charts. Very interesting experience.

Thanks....Couldn't believe how nice they had it compared to us.

Ed T., nope, I'm a 98C, and not one of the few who went to sunny Monterey. I work with quite a few people who were there, they tell me it's pretty nice.

Tombstone,

I was TDY to Griffis AFB from the 438th APS at McGuire AFBOur mission was loading the 10th Mtn. Div. onto cargo planes and sending them down to Florida after Hurricane Andrew. We were supposed to be there for 2 weeks but we completed the mision in only 8 days. We had a ball up there busting those Army pukes' balls. Too bad that base was closed.

"Who has Served?" A lot of us. A 2 year enlistment should be required of all healthy young adults. If not in the military then in some type of public works capacity.

I disagree.
Forced service is contrary to freedom.

Besides, history has proven time and time again that conscripts make poor warriors (and even worse social workers).

Allen.
