Who likes to fish?

The thing I love about fishing, is getting my son out to do it. Of course, we stick to the easier stuff, like pan fish. When he gets a bit older, we will work our way up. For now, I just try avoid anyone going home with a hook in them :)

My daughter is two, and seems to have taken quite a liking to fishing too. So that is great news!

Hey Guyon, do mind if I ask why you fish out of a kayak loaded up like that? I do most of my fishing from canoe, and wondering what I am missing :) Looks like fun!

Great pic! Got a love that big smile on him, I took my 3 year old out for the first time last week. We only fished from shore, I am a little scared to put on my boat. She also smiled all day long as well, it was great!

I fish freshwater for Steelhead, Trout, Salmon and Bass. And fish saltwater for Salmon, Tuna, Humboldt Giant Squid, Halibut, Striper, Cab, Ling and the occasional Rock Cod.

I definitely catch and release a lot more than keep.

Heres a pic of a Humboldt Giants Squid. Some of the most fun fishing ever.

I'm taking an 83 year old friend fishing in the Eastern Sierra in about 12 hours. I'm also going to hit Alaska this summer. I want to try to land a King salmon with a new Spey rod that I bought. Always used spinning gear or traditional spool style reels before.

I generally keep one fish for dinner and let the rest go.

Yep. Even took my screen name from the Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris)that torments me by not allowing tastier fish to take what I'm offering.

This is my little "hole in the water"

Sorry. No action shots right now.

The only fish I tend to keep are Crappie, Perch and maybe Trout if I'm lucky enough to find 'em. Bass, Pike and less than desirables go back.

If I can get one more large job on the honey-do list done, I'll be out fishing this weekend.

Lake Erie produced this 629 g fattie. Slit behind the head was to remove the otoliths to the fish. This beauty was over 10+ years old (my memory says 12+ but I have to check our notes). Yellow perch in this lake don't usually get above age 6, with most fish caught being aged 4.

I love to fish and have fishing rods and reels ready to go at all times and a tackle box full...I like night time fishing alot.....it's 50 -50 on catch an release or catch and eat...Fishing is very relaxing....

I take it that's not a Lake Erie vessel Rupestris; otherwise you'd be switching your handle to Neogobius. The word is those gobies use mora knives to surgically remove any and all bait from even the smallest hooks :) :)

:D True. I had a run in with a gang of gobies on the St. Lawrence River last summer (across the river from Kingston, ON). My daughter, 13 at the time, was having a ball catching them and trowing them on the shore for the gulls.

I couldn't let her put 'em back. Nasty buggers.

Managed a few Rock Bass there too.:p

I like to fish although I am not particularly great at it...I usually fish with my dad who is much more knowledgeable and with his coaching I do pretty well. I am less confident on my own but do all right, I suppose!

Wednesday/Thursday this week should be a couple of good fishing days out on the Pacific in the old man's fish boat again! Hopefully I'll have something good to show off by Friday but trying not to get my hopes up!

Fishing is one of my favorite things, been doing it most of my life. Lakes, ponds, creeks, it's all good. After my daughters were born my available time dropped to nothing, but prior to that I was big into smallmouth bass on eastern Lake Erie. Big fat smallies = my kind of fishing.

Time to get my new license.

Every Monday I have an hour and a half layover before I go back to work. Half a mile from where I go back to work is a state trout farm  Gonna start bringing my pole and fishing during the down time.

Looks like a lot of other folks are having fun taking their kids fishing too. This is the first real fun thing my son and I have gotten to do that seems like he realy enjoys spending time doing with me.

I was pretty proud of him with that big rainbow and he was all smiles. Now I just have to make him understand that fish like that aren't what people normally catch every time they go fishing.

BTW, that fish had just spawned and her belly was really slack. Pre-spawn she would have weighed quite a bit more but I'm glad we caught her after she was able to lay her eggs. She is at the taxidermist now and my son already claimed her for his wall.

At that lake you are not allowed to catch and release the trout. If hooked you are supposed to keep them. I guess they don't want the trout dying and causing disease.

I'm just glad my son is old enough to start doing more things like this with him. Looking forward to getting him out in the field to do some hunting later in the year.

I'm a fisherman at heart. Sometimes I catch and release, other times I hook and cook.

I live to fish. It doesnt matter where. I mainly fish the coast of NorCal for rockfish and lingcod from my kayak. I fished SoCal a lot when I was younger. I also will hit the freshwater if the opportunity arises. I used to bass fish quite a bit. I try to fish everywhere I go. I just returned from Sayulita, Mexico where I slayed the rooster fish. The salmon season was shut down in my area this year so I am just waiting for June when the rock fish season opens. Then maybe some albacore later in the year. I ll fish for anything. It pains me to be around the water and not be fishing.

It seems there are alot of kayak fisherman here so I am going to start another thread.

Here is my trip report from Mexico

Nice fish Kev:thumbup:
I had no clue Tuna made it that far in the woods!:D
I am planning a trip to Venezuela for some peacock bass in January, come along and you can practice some Jungle survival skills! I don't think I'll be able to get the bow drill to work there though, but we can try:D
Here's a pic of one I caught last time I went.

Tony,

If the trip were coordinated with my February break, I'd say lets do it. Awesome looking fish buddy! Hope your fishing season is going fine so far.

I love fishing, any kind panfish, trout, bass but I really like catfishing! Most of the time I keep of couple to eat, and put the rest back.
