Who still carries a Case Knife?

I still carry a Case knife, almost every day, but today my post is about returning one I received that was very bad. I don't like reading about bad Case knives, and this is the first new one I have returned. I had ordered it from Shepherd Hills Cutlery a couple months ago, was on backorder. A mini copperlock with Brown Maple Burl wood handles. Tang stamp 71749L SS. It was 79.99, which by the way GEC knives are going doesn't sound like a lot, but to me it's still should buy first rate quality. I have had a few small gaps on Case knives that can be seen but not felt. I really don't buy many new knives from Case of late, maybe half a dozen in the last couple of years. Anyway, this thing had a very significant gap between the brass liner and wood handle, and I was checking with my thumbnail to see if I could feel it and my thumbnail went right into the gap, and the handle just pulled away. My hillbilly thumbnail is probably 1/32" thick or more.

So I decided to sent it right back for credit. It also had some residue on the blade and handle that should have been cleaned off and wasn't. That was minor, just would have cleaned it up and enjoyed the knife without the gap but it still is not good. I started collecting Case knives about 2008, and toured the factory in 2012, which was very enjoyable. Have had great luck with Case quality, and am hoping this was an aberration. That day I was carrying and opened the package with a mini copperlock (my favorite Case pattern) from 2008 with blue rogers corn cob jigged handles, and this one was and is flawless, blade still looks like a mirror and it's a beauty. I really enjoy Case knives and almost all I have are first rate, no complaints.

I realize that companies will occasionally have a bad one slip by, but yours sounds like it should have never made it off the production floor, much less all the way to QC...
I'm sure they will replace it, but it's very discouraging that it ever made it out the door....

If you "don't like reading about bad Case knives" why post your complaint? If you are human, you've probably screwed up things on your job too, do your customers post their complaints on a place for people to come appreciate your work? I'll bet not. At least with a flaw you know it was made by humans not machines. Case will take care of ya.

I don't like reading about bad Case knives because of my affection for Case, and my hope that they continue making quality knives. I didn't say people should not post honest reviews and experiences about Case or any company. If their quality level is consistently going down, I want to know and suspect others on the forum do too.

I like to believe the best in people, which is why I am hoping you are just having a bad day and are not normally the type of boor who posts childish insulting emails to make themselves feel better.

Boor: unrefined, ill-mannered person...kinda like the guy who complains about the quality of his Case knife in a 113 page thread about loving Case knives :)
