Who The Heck Are Ya?

Hi,

My name is Chester Thompson. I currently live in Houston, Texas. I have always loved knives, and just recently got a house that I could think about doing things like making knives, I am pretty sure that people would get a little upset about me trying to do it in an apartment. I have very little idea of what I am actually doing, but I am having fun trying. I have visited Texas KnifeMaker Supply in person several times, and they have been very helpful. I will probally lurk around and not say to much, but just try to learn from what is posted.

God Bless,
Chester

That's me Larry Benjamin, Missouri born and bred, right on the banks of the mighty Mississippi. Only difference now is that i'm on the Illinois side.
I'm a retired soldier, have been a DOD contractor in the middle east since I retired, and have pretty much gone full time making knives since momma don't want me going back over there.
My handle is derived from a radio call sign from my active duty days at NTC.

Name's Eric S.

Born and raised in Kalifornia. Sacramento to be specific. I am a mortgage broker for Ca too so if you're looking to refinance, purchase, etc shoot me a PM ;) *shameless plug*. Am also a prior service Airborne Infantryman and damn proud of it.

I collect nihonto and modern japanese blades mostly. I am active on SFI (sword forum international) and a local nihonto club. But there's something about bowies and similar custom pieces from many of you wonderful smiths that keeps me very interested in knives.

Once time is available, I too would like to learn and eventually become a smith. Maybe I can get some good direction here. Other than that i've experimented in hybrid and traditional japanese polish.

I'm Brent Schermann from Milford, IL. I'm a former Marine, current Machinist working in a Hydraulic/Pnuematic Cylinder Production Facility. I've had one type of knife or another since I was a kid. I've always been fascinated with the form and function of even the most basic cutting tools. I started selling commercially made knives several years ago as a side business. I would commonly get the question "Did you make any of these knives". I finally got tired of saying "No". Working in a machine shop I had access to a lot od worn out files and a couple of grinders....and that's where my addiction started.

Thanks for your time :p

Hi, I am Kevin Davey.....made my first knife Feb 2002 and been trying to improve ever since....I reckon I have forged a few hundred knives so far but only 50 or so have seen any handles :) ........and some of those have found their way into the scrap bin....

If knife making was easy, I would have given up ages ago :)

Hi guys. I'm Steve Rice AKA STR on this forum and the KF where I'm also a moderator and have my home page. I'm known as DEEB on the Spyderco forum and the Ken Onion forum because for some reason my initials were rejected there. I am trying to get that changed though because when I make my own knives I always sign them STR which is what I prefer to go by. Nice to meet all of ya. I'm sure I know some of ya already though.

I live in NE Oklahoma. My wife and I are retired living happily day by day and I play cutlery for my hobby. I believe my profile says mostly how I feel about it and kind of a nut shell of some of the things I'm into.

Anyway, now that I know this place is alive (long story) I'll be stopping by more often and hopefully learning and growing along with the rest of you. I hope to post some of my experiences and also hear about yours very shortly. Thanks

Steve

HI
My name is Lord Farquhar but every one calls me Mozzy.
I was born on the west coast of Scotland but now I live south of the border.
I am new to this group but I have been hanging about other knife making forums for a while now.
I made my first knife and axe about 16-17 years ago and I started again about a year ago. I used to be a strength coach but now I live at a desk running some gyms as a manager.
I have been making and selling knifes and blades for about a year now . I used to really only do stock removal and use my forge for heat treating. But now (thanks to the works and wisdom of Coultel (AKA Kevin Davey) etc) I have been inspired to forge a lot more. So for the moment I am really just forging and getting some anvil time on and selling bare blades.

My name is Greg Brown. I live in Boston. I've been intrested in knives of all shapes and sizes my whole life. After I started practicing filipino kali about 5 years ago I became very intrested in the design of functional fighting blades. I am a professional carpenter with a degree in manufacturing engineering. As for the k9 in the handle, I have a dog I do protection training with. I am just picking this stuff up from reading How to make knives and by reading the different web sites available. This forum has been a great help to me as well. I hope to be able to share my thoughts and observations as I progress in my knife making skills.

Good idea, this thread. My name is Clay Lambert, and I'm not a knife maker (yet!) but I love to collect them. I am a longtime hunter and am fascinated with hunting knives and EDC folders. Have to say also that I'm blown away by the creativity and quality one can find on this forum! My hat is off to all of you, and I can't think of a nicer group of folks to give my money to. :)

One of these days I'll rearrange my time such that I can try my hand at making a blade or two. Until then, I'm soaking up knowledge here to prepare for it. Thanks to everyone who has patiently answered so many of my dumb questions -- I appreciate it!

Clay
