Outstanding Dave.

HEY HARRY: Guess what I found. I found a really nice piece of the damascus that I did not heat treat and had thrown in a draw and forgot about. I know its the same stock because I had written 'NICK'S' on both sides. It measures a good 1 1/2 inch by 5/8 inch wide. It is in the annealed condition and has lots of great figure on both sides. Email me your address.

Roger
I've sold my house and soon moving. I still need some makoume for bola. Please hurry all the parts for the bola so I can get done in the next couple of weeks. PLEASE!! Send me the request for address vie e-mail at hmknick@smn.com.

Dan,

Harry,

The damascus goes out to you tomorrow (Friday).

I received today by Priority mail, from a fellow named Dave Larson, a most beautiful full tang blade all beveled and tapered and drilled and wanting to be heat treated.

I'll see if I can get some out tomorrow. :)

It should be done for you Dave. I have on order and expect to arrive first half of next week PBC coating from Brownell's, which if works as I hope will eliminate scaling and decarburation. I will test it out first on a sample or two of O1. If I decide it is not worth using the blade will be returned to you for grinding out the decarb.. Also within the same shippment is 2 gal. of Tough-Quench that I will also test out on some O1 before using on this blade. The two above items where recommended to me by our very own Bruce Bump so I expect happy results.

I am going to post pictures of Daves exquisite grinding before I heat treat.

the template with holes done by yours truly and the Tang taper by Dave.
this template will be used to fit the handle material and it is relieved
for the profiling of the jade and handle material.

Sweet tapered tang!

Roger you are going to like the PBC and the tough quench method. I even use it on triple quenching 52100 now and no scale to grind off.

BTW I ordered the 24 carot gold plating and a special applicator pen for my plating rectifier today. Still havent ordered the stencil though, Maybe I better get with it.

Bruce, do you understand the theory of operation for that rectifier thingie and if so can you explain it to me?? I am interested.

They sent the PBC and Tough-Quench out today and I expect it to show up around-about Tuesday. I'll do some O1 samples to accustom myself to using the stuff and will HT the prize by or during the weekend.

Too bad about Harry moving away. I hope he doesn't leave the BF.

The grinds and drill work look great. We are getting there now.

Just Halfway - Halfway, Oregon that is. I'll still be in touch, and I plan to pester the heck out of Bruce anyway. I won't have a forge or press for awhile and so will need access if I want to custom forge (and I will). Whenever Bruce is forging, I drop whatever I'm doing to get there.

Good Harry. Don't want to loose you to the Martians.

BRUCE, are you saying that you can quench three times without re-coating with the PBC?

Here all is a pix of Daves work. I can testify that both sides are alike and the plunge is a lesson in grinding.

Looks good! Roger I clean and recoat after each quench. The pbc just washes off with hot water. When the blade is preheating about 500f take it out and sprinkle the pbc on until nicely coated then pop it back in the oven until the curry point and quench. Do this 3 times and temper 3 times. "try it youll like it"

Man that looks nice, Dave.

<panic attack>

I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy.
