Who Would Be Interested In Doing A Collaboration Classic Hunter With Me??

WOW!!!

Both liners profiled. Tonight I will set up for grinding the back angle Dan and I decided on. Tomorrow I hope to grind that and all dovetails.

These liners are slightly over size so Dan can have some leaway in indexing for his drilling. Later I will grind them slightly undersize to relieve them from Nick's beautiful damascus.

This stuff loves to eat belts.

The jade is looking great! This probably is a little late, but the best thing to use to draw a mark on jade or hard stone is one of those long aluminum gutter mounting nails. They work like magic and it is easy to remove the mark. The mark shows up very good, too. You can beat me later for not posting this sooner.

I spoke with ol'John over the land line just now and to my great suprise I learned that it was HE that actually sliced the rock. All this time I had thought he had his lapidary friend do that. John is just too humble to say in public and I am sure I did not pay as much attention to his details in the past. John, of course, also cut the cut outs. John the lapidary encouraged me all the way and has always been there for me to answer my questions. We have put together a great team and to date no outside help has been required to do any work on this knife.

P.S., I have found too that a Pentel pencil makes a real nice mark that will not erase from grinding profiles, even with water (so long as you do not rub it too much).

This knife is coming together! Thanks for the great images and updates on the progress.

Nice work team.

Plop-Plop Fizz-Fizz, Oh What A Relief It Is.

Ground thinner, squared up, hand laped cut-out edges, glassed, profiled, angled and dovetailed. Both liners match in length at all four corners and mate up to Dan's bolster dovetails. Hard to tell what is possible when you get a bunch of knife makers together.

They are ready for Dan to do his magic then its the blank off to Dave for grinding.

I tried to get the great pattern of Sean's mokume to show up in the photo but could not. It stands out real well but I guess I was getting too much glare.

Roger,That's great! A heck of a lot of work,Roger, and the jade looks really good. Hey, YOU DA MAN, ROGER! Beer time! When you said last night you planned on having it done today, you wasn't kidding! I knew that.

John,

As I said, I find beer goes well with jade. and ..., No, You Da Man. If not for you we wouldn't have thought of it or had gotten it sliced up and our ol'buddy Sean (King of mokume) came through with the jade.

Here is another one I think will give a better idea of what we have:

Way too cool seeing this knife come together. Everyone has done a great job so far. Let's keep up the good work!

Dan,

Put Nick down for presentation edge and edge retention testing. I need to get back in touch with Harry too to confirm he is still solid and get his info to you. I spoke with Jay by email today and he is still solid on the sheath making.

I jumped the gun a little on the edge sharpening assignment by not discussing it first and hope all will give me a pass but I just felt it fitting Nick edge his steel. Besides, where would we get a better edge and he can judge the HT better of his own steel compared to his experience with it. I am happy he is eager to do it.

Hey Guys-

Everything seems to be buzzing along nicely. I don't know the first thing about stone-work, so I've just been follwoing the thread along. That jade is really pretty stuff.

I'll be happy to sharpen it up when you guys get it all wrapped up.

Keep up the good work fellas :)

Nick

and what you see in the photo is a 120 grit grind. It is still rough. This stuff will shine. I am convinced, thanks to John's advise and another lapidary's, I can acheive a water sheen to this jade. If I can't John can. I am also convinced I will be able to give it a graceful curve to the tang surface, as it should be.

RL

got it Roger
I just have to up load it..when I get the other pictures
on the page. I've been gone most the day,
pounding some steel with the boys..:)

Hi all,

I've been visiting the grandkids for a few days and was unable to get to my e-mail. I did check the board yesterday, looks like progress has been made. Great work!

I'm still in the loop to do the bola, the thong tip, and am preparing a news release to send to Michael.

Nice work Roger - on the jade. When you put the final polish on the jade, I recommend you use a damp piece of light weight leather, 3 or 4 ounce. Dampen it, apply rouge and buff the heck out of the jade. If you want to see how it works, take any one of your stone rings or bracelets and try it on one of the stones. It will outshine any other buffing compund or method I've ever used. I've used it for years.

Harry

Where do I get the rouge??

Harry, please email Dan with your assignments and your name and email address. He'll include you on the maker list on the web site.

Well I have these beautiful blanks in hand and am seriously procrastinating putting grit to them... :D Okay okay, I'll get a few cups in me this morning and go take a shot at it. You guys wish me luck!
