Who Would Be Interested In Doing A Collaboration Classic Hunter With Me??

KNIFE CASE

Just got back from Dad's and we shot some pix of a box he made in oak. As voted on, ours will be walnut. Except for walnut, change in dimensions and a possible second drawer this is what we can expect. Also the floor of the top drawer will be made to hold knife and sheath in place (routed out and all that stuff, you know). I am attaching five pix so I hope it is not too long a load. Let me know what you guys think. RL

(down the road) I would like to know the interior dimensions so that the certificate can be appropriately sized. I would hate to make a full-color bleed only to have it end up smushed or folded in a too-small drawer.

Real good Dan K.. If Dan can get me the width and OAL length of knife (I forget :o) and I can get in touch with our sheath maker for his thoughts on overall size of sheath I can give those to Dad and he can get started making the case. However, what do you think the minimum size cert might be (8 1/2 X 11 or less)? What do you have to have? Any ideas yet on that?

RL

I can print whatever size you want - doesn't matter. Just whatever it ends up being - I'd like some advance notice....:D :p

I would be nice to fit the cert. in the bottom of the drawer (snug) or under it too.

Dan K., I'll give you the dimensions of drawer or floor space as soon as I get that. I suspect you'll have a goodly size to work with.

RL

Roger, that's going to be SOME BOX! The box your dad is making is going to be a most fitting compliment to our knife. Hey, nice pictures, Roger.

Sounds GREAT Roger :)

Looks like your dad does some really nice work. Obviously has a lot of pride in what he does! :)

It's just aesthetic preferences...but I like the idea of Walnut, and maybe an Ogee or similar router work around the top edge of the case... just something with a little bite to go along with the sharp edge of the knife. NOTHING wrong with the round-over work, just making a suggestion.

I think things are really moving now! :D

Nevermind, I just looked at the pictures again and realized his edge work is a bit different than I thought.

Top notch stuff... :)

9 7/16" OAL

BTW the Ivory is looking good so far as to the warping.
it's turning out well. I think I'll poke some holes in it next week.. :D

OT Roger whats one of those go for I like that Box..

Good then, I suppose that is what we'll go with. Dan, since you ask, I think he told me $169. Just like some of our own experiences, he explains to me that at shows lots of people look and look and then stick their nose up in the air as they walk away but then the ones that do buy them usually ask how he can make them so inexpensively. Sound familiar?

RL

That is a beautiful box. Something occurred to me last night, would it be possible to make, essentially, a frame for the certificate that would slide out under the drawer for the knife? Just a thought. Roger your father rocks, that box is fantastic. It grows on me all the time.

Dan, can you give me the width please? Jay will need length and width for a guess on sheath OA size. You already posted the OAL of knife. You know, there is something else too to take into consideration as far as case size goes: Harry's thong lanyard. That baby is going to have some furnature to it, as I recall. and then there is the bolo too that needs to be thought about.

I wonder if Harry is looking in.

Dan, I told Pop he would have the template and the finished sheath to use for mapping out the insets. I now believe it best for him also to have Harry's work if all is to show well. What think? I can see the bolo in the main display drawer though. No need to have it rolling around on Dan K.'s cert.

RL

Bruce, he posted here a while back after he made his move but I have not seen him on here since. I'll go back to Dan Gray's Collab. page and see if there is a valid email address. I have wondered but not undully. Its probably just a matter of me taking so much time when it was on my end and this and that. It's easy to get to where you just wait on the other guy to finish up. I'll check and see on Dan's page but other than that I have no email contact for him.

BTW Bruce, you didn't say anything about the wooden case pix. Maybe you dd not see them. Is it okay. Do you have any suggestions we should know about? Pop can do whatever.

EDIT: okay, I just went to Dan's Collab page and emailed Harry. I did not go into particulars but only announced who I am and subject matter and asked if it is a valid email address that I just emailed to.

Dan,

Not to put the rush on because there is none but can you give a report as to what you think and expect? Also, Pop can begin the box if I can give him some specs.. I should have done this before shipping to you but can you give me OAL and max width of the knife? I will also have to get that to our sheath maker so he can figure approximate sheath size. With that I can get Pop going. He can do the floor fitting after the box is made. If I remember correctly Dan K. is pretty tolerant on cert size so that is not critical, especially since I know he will have plenty of box width and length anyhow. About every time I speak with Pop he asks and I know he is anticipating getting started. My fault because I could have easily taken a few measurements before sending to you. Another thing I can't forget is Harry's part. His stuff will take space in the box too.

Also, can any of us that see this that still have a part to do please check in to affirm all is still well with their part? Thanks.

Thanks.

between taking the woman to work
200 miles a day for me to run back and forth  she can't drive in this stuff,, :(
the heating oil is running me $750.00 a month right now added to the other bills well you know how it is..
and trying to keep up because of the other stuff that has happened
it's a barrow of monkeys around here right now..that's why I haven't jumped on the SF blades...

the ivory is calming down ,, it has shrunk length wise a little and is going to cause a slight adjustment in mokum width but it should be ok.. I don't want it moving on the pins allot that wouldn't be good
I know there's no pressure other than self induced pressure.
but I'll do asap..bear with me guys Pleeeeeeezzze :( :)

OK, here comes a monkey wrench falling from the sky, concerning the ivory. How's about stabilizing it, if there is concern about the ivory moving around? Would we gain any benefit treating the ivory? I am new at the ivory thing, so please add your educated and valuable opinions.

shouldn't be a problem John
I'm getting it to stay straight then I'll soak it in mineral oil for a few days..
should be good to go.. :)
