Who would buy the 0454 with a non-composite blade?

I would get one with either configuration. I like the tripple CB, it's extremely unique and the steel used is an excellent choice. I'm glad ZT chose to go for equal parts function and aesthetics.

I would prefer a non composite blade also. I have always preferred the shapes and grinds on the blade side to be the real eye catcher.

Not a composite blade fan, but I didn't design it.

One in a full spec hardness S110V would be amazing in a non composite blade.

I like the slimmer profiles of the 0454 and 0600. I think they would make for outstanding gentleman's folders with blade lengths of 3-3.25".

Man that 600 is scrumptious, but it's the counterpoint of size and delicacy that got to me. I had it in my possession briefly, and can't wait to hear the reaction of the recipient. If you want a small version of the R.J. Martin formula the Zing is a great little knife, especially the ones made in the US recently with the Sandvik steel. And there's another R.J. Martin design by Kershaw that I can't remember the name of at the moment.

Update: It's the Scrambler. Not quite the same elegant blade shape, though.

Undoubtedly, the beauty of the spine design really shines in the original ZT Cardinator one-steel blade.

One beneficial side-effect to the production issues with the 0777 is that now we also get the 0777M390.

Not wishing any such production issues with the 0454 but it'd be great if ZT stocked up on extra 0454 handles.

would doing one without composite blade make it cheaper price wise? i love the knife as it is but wont ever get one due to price so if its cheaper without composite id be interested

I wouldn't buy it no matter what type of blade it has. I just don't do folders with blades over 3.75 inches. I am with kershawguy on this one. Let them make it out of whatever they want. There are plenty of different models out there to choose from.

Fell in love with this knife when I saw the proto, was very disappointed when I saw the production version :(

I am afraid that my sentiments are very similar.

When I saw the original custom version I was convinced that It was pretty much an automatic buy. Unfortunately, I like the look of the original better. I would defiantly prefer a stainless steel like m390, elmax, or s110v. Its also sad to see the sweet blue ring on the pivot gone. The original had such an understated elegance to it. I do have to admit that I like the 454's unobtrusive screws in the handle.

Still a great looking knife, but I was definitely disappointed. Think I will probably pass on it.

Yeah huh count me in. In what steel, S110v?:D

I like it as is, but a non composite version in a super steel would be equally as good and would compliment each other well.

I'm sure they have discussed this already and with this thread who knows. There's really nothing to stop them from making extra runs of the 0454 in different versions.

:Spoiler Alert:
If they make it; ZT wins, We win.

the patchwork 0545 blade is aweful, IMO. blocky squares do not gel with smooth flowing lines of the folder. are they out for sale/pre-order already or? just wondering....

Love it. Will have one. Apparently it was liked enough to win a little award at Blade.

That wasn't a Prototype. It was one of his customs.

Glad you said that as I was just about to! It was the inspiration for the 0454 not the proto to it.

I am simply going by the descriptions used in the russian magazine from the cardinator thread. It is true its not a KAI produced knife but many times when a custom maker provides a design for a company to use, the knife they present to the company is referred to as a "prototype". From that "prototype" the "production prototype" will be based on it and of that the "production" model will be based. If KAI was utilizing the original Sinkevich as a representation of things to come from KAI then i feel it warrants the title. Whether it was simply a custom Dmitry had laying around or if it was made specifically for KAI and that show (as the magazine article claims) it still served the purpose that a prototype serves. There are currently a few "customs" that are referred to as "prototypes" from RJ martin, Ken Onion etc that were not made by KAI.
