Who would buy the 0454 with a non-composite blade?

I hadn't seen the picture of the custom version before - thanks for that. First time I saw the 0454, it made me think of a Shirogorov design, but with contoured handles. These russians are putting out some great stuff - otlichni nozhiki.

Well that isnt surprising. At least a couple shirogorov knives were designed by Dmitry. He has also done a variation of this same design with Fantoni.

I love the looks of the 0454, but I can't afford it. If they offered it without the composite blade and around the $200 mark I'd buy one in a heart beat.

Based on MSRP/MAP of 0777, 0777M390 & 0454 I'd say if a 0454M390 made it with the same lightweight & strong 3D-machined carbon fiber handles you'd be looking at a MAP of around $300.

I just find the premise of the thread to be a bit out of place.

It's almost like coming home, finding the wife cooking dinner for you (italian), and saying, "Hey, let's order chinese."

Heh. I still think the checkered pattern is sooo characteristically Russian, and I appreciate the subtle humor of it. Unless, you know... it wasn't intended to be funny, and in that case... nevermind.

Or one could say that you came home saw that your wife was taking cooking classes for italian and thought that was really cool because you love italian food and then when you got your hopes up for a nice plate of ravioli and later you come home and find out that for the last three months your wife changed her mind on learning to cook italian. And instead of getting the ravioli you thought you were going to get you got a really great plate of chinese lo mein. Sure your bound to enjoy every last bite but its not what you were expecting. It can go both ways. Either way its just a discussion and I dont think anyone is being negative.

I think it's a little more like when a company is coming out with a new product, and you say "wow, I really like that, but I and perhaps a bunch of other people would like it even more if you also offered it with this option". If that's out of place, then perhaps I'm not understanding the point of a manufacturer's forum.

It seems like there's a good number of people out there who are into the composite blade, and I'm sure ZT will not have a problem selling these. It's just that having seen a few comments, I was wondering if there were enough people preferring a plain blade that that might also be worthy of consideration.

I don't especially like the knife so no one should try to please me. Of course, if I actually touch it I might have a big revelation.

I love the composite blade as a display queen, but I would be interested in buying a non-composite version for EDC use...the prototype is gorgeous :)

HEY! its NOT a prototype. Its a custom that was called a prototype by a magazine and the maker. It was only used as a representation of their collaboration at a press conference. Where you get prototype from that is beyond me. ( I do hope you picked up on the sarcasm) :D

I think the composite 0454 looks cool in its own way, but i do agree the solid blade shown does look better to me. They are both nice, but different. The composite screams flashy show knife...the solid blade looks all business. To each their own. For the dreamers, why a solid piece of M390? If your going to dream, why not K390?

Don't get me wrong, I love the 0454 just the way it is. I just can't afford it. If I could afford it, I'd have no problem buying one.

I have to agree i love the knife but can never get one due to cost....all im saying is id be up for a cheaper model maybe without composite but at same time the composite is what i like most about it lol

I definitely prefer the original prototype. The triple sandwich design would be cooler if the blade was a dagger/spearpoint blade. The lack of symmetry is a bit of an eye sore, but if I come across a 0454, you bet I'll be walking home with the knife.

It is like some of you people have never seen something change from the concept/prototype stage to the production stage.

It happens, deal with it.

Was there this much pissing and moaning that the 0560 wasn't an exact copy of the XM-24? I know people are still crying for a 3 inch XM-18 copy but we know it isn't going to happen.

I don't remember anyone throwing a hissy fit that the 0454 isn't an exact Overkill, just some whining about the handle texturing.

Not every knife ever made is going to be built to your exact specifications and tastes, get over it or start making your own knives...

I'm all for a composite blade (assuming they can properly heat treat the steel) but this one is a bit flashy. I like the composite edge on the Tilt, it's simple.
