Who's excited for #47 Viper?!

Thanks for all the pics! I really start to like the style of this pattern, just a bit smaller and I would start looking into where to get one.

btw, meako, what is that smaller knife in your pics? Is that a Case Swayback Jack?

Cheers,
Bernd

Bernd,
If you're looking for a bit smaller, try the GEC 55 pattern. It's 3 1/2" (1/4" smaller than the Viper).

So , the Lava Acrylic #47, all purchased by the time I got around to looking for one.

Nice pattern.

Got this nice stag from Barry. Perfect F&F.

What's the purpose of the Wharncliffe blade?

WikiPedia said:
Its blade is much thicker than a knife of comparable size. Wharncliffes were used by sailors, as the shape of the tip prevented accidental penetration of the work or the user's hand with the sudden motion of a ship.

That is for history. I have a few reasons I like Wharncliffe blades myself:
  • Straight edges are much more easier to sharpen than curved ones (Sharpening recurves is black magicks anyways ;))
  • I find them aesthetically pleasing.
  • They do not look as intimidating as other blade shapes, which is very sheeple friendly ime (important where I live)!

As always: YMMV!

Cheers,
Bernd

Nice looking knives from everyone. I said I was going to pass on this model, but I feel myself becoming weak.

Got to handle one of the smooth white bone Vipers today, WOW she was lovely! I had found this knife while checking the tables at the Lewisburg PA Knife show, they will be open tomorrow too, this blade when laid on top of the Viper was almost an exact outline ;) so this will tide me over until mine arrives next week..

It's a 2008 Schatt & Morgan model 43054 with wormwood pocket worn bone scales...

Very cool knife, two smaller blades, whittler style folder...

Gary,
You picked up a wonderful knife. I hope you had a great day.
I had thought we were going to the show, but after this winter I am a little burned out ( or haven't thawed out yet ).

thanks Guys, just finishing up sharpening her nice and keen ;) and wow, so VERY pointy too !!

It should hold me over for a while at least, while the Viper I have coming has stag, I'm not overly fond of the swedge grind, the non swedge grind seems more appealing to me for some reason, cleaner maybe, dunno, but, I'm sure I'll like it :)

edited to add, sorry you couldn't make it to the show, it was a nice day, sharpened up a few knives while there, sold a few knives which helped to fund that purchase, met a few guys I met before, always good to talk knives :)

Well, I wasn't expecting to see my Viper until Monday, but the USPS got something right and the package was delivered today!

Once I noticed this on the tracking website, I ran out to the mailbox to retrieve it.

First impressions:
Very well made. Stiff to open/close, but not terribly so. This is probably a good thing, as I don't want it to be sloppy. The wood is fantastic, and the fit and finish is impeccable.
Then I tried to cut... Honestly... It was a bit lacking. However, this was easily remedied with a few minutes on my strop.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my first foray into quality traditional knives. This will make a nice compliment to my usual assortment of Benchmade knives.
