Who's excited for #47 Viper?!

I am so excited, thanks to timberweasel's uber generous GAW...if the knife wasn't enough, he threw in a KSF pocket sheath, a Spyderco sharpening stone, and a fire steel. Here's a hastily put together foto...

timberweasel flys one step ABOVE FIRST CLASS.

My first post
My first GEC ordered today
My first swayback
4th knife ordered this week....this site is gonna cause me to go broke! Looking forward to seeing the viper natural stag up close :)

I was really looking forward to the viper, but USPS have had some problems delivering mine.

I hope it gets resolved soon, because the remaining vipers are selling out way to quick.

Hey, you guys with Northfield Vipers....

I'm trying to decide between a Northfield and a Tidioute, and the main factor will be pinchability. I'm interested in being able to grab the blade with my fingertips and pull it open, rather than having to use my thumbnail in the nick.

Is the Northfield version, with its swedge, easily pinchable?

Thanks!
Alex

I never use the nail nick on mine. Just pinch it, pull, and it's open.

Initially it was very tight, but with some lube and use it has become a joy.

Alex, I can pinch mine open forward of the nail nick. I haven't tried it with cold and/or wet hands, but I think I'd have to use the nail nick then.

If I were trying to decide between a Northfield and a Tidioute with the main factor being pinchability I would not choose a Northfield. With its polished blade and cut swedge, I find it impossible to pinch open. On the Tidioute I can even pinch closer to the tip to get more leverage, but on the Northfield the closer to the tip the less there is to grab on to.

I like the Tidioutes. The Ivory Bone and Bocote ones shown by blee are really impressive.

Sigh! Too bad this pattern is rather too big for my needs, it certainly doesn't lack looks:D:thumbup:

Actually, I agree wirh you. After getting 3 of these, I'm more inclined to carry the smaller #66 Stockman or #15 Scout with their Sheepfoot blade :)
