who's on instagram?

I'm on there. I Just started, but it seems like a good way to just share pic's of what's going on.

@rohdeedge

Just started an account myself @wulfdmaker
It's fun to see what other makers, collectors, and friends are up to...

I started my IG account with @sharpbycoop. It's now grown to 2000 followers and I try to show off some stuff with regularity.

Then I wanted to utilize it for family and cars and rowing and other utilitarian aspects in my life, but I found that incongruous. :(

Fortunately now they have made it easier to have TWO accounts and to swap back and forth. I started a personal account for this, and you can press and hold your profile icon at the bottom of your phone to bring up both; choose which you want to post or respond as.

(Tip: Go to the VERY bottom of your 'Options' or settings in your profile, and you will see an option to 'add an account'. If you already have another, there is no need to log in and log out. Sweet.)

In the past month or so they also have allowed 'rectangle' images, instead of just square. VERY smart!

I'm also getting ads. LOL! it's a 'media' device!

I put a link to my instagram in my sig line, (hint hint)

This thread is awesome, I already follow some of you, but would like to connect with more! My Instagram is @windriverwild

I believe Instagram is the most focused marketing tool anyone could use...and it's free. I would say 80% of my orders come from people who follow me on Instagram. When someone contacts me to get on the books, they are looking at over a years wait so I urge those who don't follow my Instagram feed to do so and get a feel for what styles, materials and embelishments they like. I also post a lot of WIP pics on Instagram and find that the person I'm making the particular knife for, really enjoys seeing the process. It adds to the customers buying experience.

I agree! YOu just have to get enough people to start following you....that's the trick ;) For those of you with 1,000+ followers How long have you been at it?

Hi!

From my own collector's perspective, Instagram has become a very effective way to get and stay in touch with makers. A great deal of new and uprising ones on there, but also long-time makers. It is a great mix and I would love to see as many makers give it a try as possible. To me, Instagram has made the classic maker's homepage almost redundant (ok, more room or a bio would be nice). And that in a much more effective and easier to maintain way. On the other hand, over time and with lots of posts things can become more difficult to locate.

Daniel, I had my first post 46 weeks ago as a collector and am now at a tad below 1500. Must have hit 1000 a month or so ago. A couple of big-hitters will push you a lot, as they will stick to the "popular" spots of a tagged category for quite some time. So, if you want to get a lot of followers, it does help to tag a few and the "right" categories. I often don't tag at all, because I am just having fun as a collector.

Best,
Alex
