who's on instagram?

On the hashtags, I look at what the people I like to follow use and then do a search using those tags. If there is a high post count for a certain tag and it is appropriate to my work, I will use it. I started out using about twenty hashtags but have whittled it down to about eight that work well for me. I also prefer to gain quality followers rather than a large volume. I don't use any of the gimmicks to gain new followers. In a year, I have attained about 900 followers by just using good hashtags and getting the occasional share from someone who has a larger following. Jim Skelton shared a pic of some of my knives and I added about 300 followers overnight.

I got on Instagram a few months back and have over 2k..I just recently tried a few hash tags but I usually forget to use them:confused:...hazards of getting old;)

BTW: one of the people I follow with regularity is Michael Walker. He's always posting some WIP.

One of the VERY top makers in the world spends his time teaching on IG. It shows how convenient, beneficial, and advanced this medium now is.

sorry if this is a dumb question or already answered: Do you need a smart phone to use instagram? Why does it always say i need to download an app? nearly all the content I like is migrating to instagram, friends, family, cool knifemakers, etc. Also it seems some people can post to instagram and it automatically posts to facebook as well?

Most people use a smart phone to use instagram. You can edit your profile and follow people from your computer. I know a few people who use it on their tablet, by downloading an app. Instagram is an app that you use.

A lot of people will share their instagram posts to facebook. It's an easy way to hit some of your linked social media platforms. That is why it seems like it automatically does it. However, some people don't like that since it comes off as lazy. I hope this answers your questions.

Instagram is awesome! I like it a lot. I think Hatcher has the most followers as far as knifemakers go, with like 50k. If there is someone with more, then I don't follow them. I haven't been using it long, but I plan on catching him soon. :D I love seeing people's work on there. I hope it continues to grow.

I'm still a flip phone guy my self. Had to get a new battery while back and the store said they had to use a time machine to order the battery. Beam me up Scotty. Anyhoo I do use a tablet for IG, as a laptop and it plays the music in the shop. Whoda thunk it. But the tablet makes the pics big enough this old guy can see em. So take pics on the camera, look at em on the computer and resize the ones I want. I then email em to myself, open the pics on the tablet save em to the gallery and then post em on IG.

I like Instagram, it's great to post pictures directly from ny workshop.
