who's on instagram?

Without Instagram i would have never even known that the "Custom knife world" existed. I saw my first handmade knives on Insta and thats what kindled my interest in the craft. I reckon their are a ton of people just like me, in that they had never known of custom knives and then found themselves completely infatuated with it; sprouting new collectors and makers alike. Posting only the best photos and proper use of "hashtags" really help you grow quickly. Also the accounts with the most engagement are typically ones by makers who post WIP pics; it gives your following a connection, sometimes even an anticipation, with each knife you build.

Took me about a year to reach 2k (2014) then during 2015 i gained another 8k+. i find that once you hit 2k or so it really "rolls". it helps to regularly post, at least every other day. Also you can use sites like ink361.com to view statistics of your page to see what times people most frequent your feed. So for instance my peak hours are around 6pm each night, so i post most of pictures around then; especially "for sale" posts.

if y'all wanna check me out I'm "@LongDogForge"

Nice tip on the ink361, good info to see.

@mgregoryknives

Be forewarned - there's probably as many stupid dog photos on mine as there are knives. ;)

I've got 3700 plus followers. Been doing it about 2 years. I've found that to build your following consistently you have to post consistently. I try to do 2 to 3 pics at least 3 times a week if not more. Also know your market use your #s to appeal to them.

Great thread. Gonna be following some more knife makers now:thumbup:

@ericksonknifeworks

Wow never thought this thread would take off like this.
I'm curious though how Do you guys use hashtags or what hashtags do you use and is that how people find you to follow you?

I'm there too!

@peu_ar

What hashtags you guys use the most?

Pablo

I'm just a hack and rarely finish a knife but I post a ton, probably too many WIP photos. Occasional family pic thrown in with other fab projects etc. I only have 2200+ followers and gained most of them through doing a couple give aways and/or raffles. Currently working on my first w2 Bowie with hamon. Trying to get it done before this weekend. The hashtags I'm using for the build are hamon, Bowie, clippoint, clippointbowie, hamonbowie, powersknives etc..

Tons of other hashtags have a lot of use such as knifecommunity, knivesofinstagram, knifeporn, knivesdaily, customknife, knifemaking, knifemaker etc...
