Mr. Dennis.. I think you left your Pat Crawford at my place ;)
Kiem, sorry to hear yoru deal went sour with Chris.. I always foudn him to be a very patient and friendly guy...

I'm still angry that you sold my 2XL shirt I left under the bed.Now I suppose you're going to trade my Pat Crawford Balisong for a used Bear butterfly. We "dang old timers" get no respect.

I can't say i fliped it real hard yet.But i can tell you it opends very smoothly like all Dobruskis do.Nicley done recessed pin, tang cups just about even. It's very light easy to control. If you try to contact Blade Art it might still be available.Just let them know it's TITANIUM

 Dobruski makes each bali to customer spec's and then number them as they are made. Which means there can only be one CB59. So your CB59 is the 59th Custom Bali he's made. Did you pick this up or not?

now I am totally confused Kiem... How can there be two 59's???

Larry and Ida told me it's SS but when i picked up the Bali i knew for sure it saw Ti and Not Steel. Then made a Phone call to Ida askings about the handle material she checks it and say "yup it's Titanium".
I wanted a SS balisong not a Ti,...So i have to think over this Purchase i just made.

Kiem..., Kiem..., Kiem....!!!

Simply weigh the knife!!!!! If it weighs 7.0 - 7.3 ounces.., it's 303 Stainless..., if it weighs anything less..., the handles are titanium....

It's a good knife..., nothing to think about....Keep it!

Yeah what made the deal go sour Kiem?? I've found Chris to be great to deal with...??? Can't imagine him being anything but straight forward. So what happened???

well yes, Chris is a nice guy.I've spoke with him a few times.Except for the time he demanded me to have money.

The knife was not on time...I was supposed to recive it before i left to Atlanta Blade sHow02'and ended up not having it cause it wasn't ready.:grumpy:
I ended up spending more than expected in Atlanta. So then had to wait for sometime to get some more money.
Then i ended up having to go on another a few trips which cause time to stall and money not comeing in.

Kiem, are you trying to say that were expecting to pay for the knife after it was made?

Is'nt it usual to pay in advance for these types of deals?

I myself would assume so, but if you have priorities to deal with, why didnt you notify him to terminate the deal?

I would begin to think that he didnt even begin production on it.:(

EDIT: Truthfully, I think it is UN-LIKLY for markers/dealers to accept I.O.U on custom/top quality knives, except in the event of COD's.

No, not in my experiences, Chris's page is quoted saying...

"We presently do not require deposits, except on certain orders. We will let you know if we do. When the knife is complete you may send a check or money order payable to Christopher Olofson. Orders will be sent when the check clears. All knives may be returned in new condition within 5 days or receipt for a full refund. Thank you for your interest in 29 knives.
Sincerely,
Christopher Olofson"

pretty fair for a custom maker. I think personal feedback has a lot to do with deposit requirements.

production of Kiem's knife was complete. I tried to buy it last time I talkied to Chris, I think he was reluctant to sell in hopes of salvaging the sale with Kiem when he re-entered the country. That's just the impression I got from Chris...

Does Dobruski charge up front? or Eric over @ Maeirblades?

Of course it varies with makers.., and some do require a deposit. Currently.., the talented makers we have doing custom Balisongs are expecting that if you order a knife.., you will have the money to pay for it when it's complete. <~~ Fairly reasonable assumption.

Of course sh** happens.., and given the waiting time necessary to receive a knife from some makers, cashflow can, and is, sometimes a problem. The key to having a good working relationship with any maker is communication, and I've found 95% of knifemakers to be extremely fair in this regard. If you let them know what's happening, and demonstrate a committment to make payment as soon as possible, this is generally acceptable to some extent. But.., it is not realistic to think a guy making custom knives can "warehouse" knives they've made waiting for payment. They don't run retail stores that "STOCK" merchandise. They produce a product with the projection of being paid upon completion unless other arrangements are made in advance, and mutually agreed upon.

Kiem?? I'm going to assume some (or all) the things I just mentioned didn't take place in the "Deal gone sour" that you mentioned, and I do think it's unfair to Chris (or any maker).. to casually use that description without explanation. Chris is not on the interent to defend himself, and when you are vague about describing the actual dynamics of what took place, it can hurt someone's reputation (whether you meant to or not).

I ended up spending more than expected in Atlanta. So then had to wait for sometime to get some more money.
Then i ended up having to go on another a few trips which cause time to stall and money not comeing in.

So spending more money than you intended, and having to go on other trips was Mr. Olofson's fault??? As I mentioned.., if your expectation is that a Custom Knifemaker can produce random knives for people then simply store them until you can pay.., that isn't how it works.

The fact is.., that if you ask many guys that have purchased custom Balisongs directly from the maker.., it is fairly rare that they are done exactly on time, or as planned..., an in fact.., I'd say Chris is far closer to being "On Time" in that respect.., than most makers are.., simply because Balisongs are the only knife he makes.

well yes, Chris is a nice guy.I've spoke with him a few times.Except for the time he demanded me to have money.

Hard to tell if you are kidding or not Kiem.., but are you saying Chris finished the knife you ordered from him with no deposit..., and then requested that you pay for it when it was complete.., and so he's the "Bad Guy"???

I'm totally confused now....lol..., but I talk to Chris almost every week.., so I'll see what his side of the story is, because it's simply not fair to hear only yours. In fact.., I think I bought the very knife from Chris you are talking about, unless he's made a few that are atypical Scimitar-Like profiles.., and it turned out nicely, although he couldn't incorporate some of your shaping ideas. If it is the same knife, you have to realize that anytime you ask a custom maker to go from hand-done renderings, you can expect it may take a bit longer to produce.

Bottom line.., is that I've heard you mention this "Deal Gone Sour" 2 or 3 times on the Forums when Chris' name was mentioned.., without much explanation. My guess is that if Chris feels he wronged you in anyway, he will openly admit it. He seems like a very upfront guy to me.
