Why all the Opinel rave?

Just reprofiled and sharpened them, the INOX seemed to be harder RC wise.... So you might be right...

Ankerson,

The carbon is close to 1086 at 56Rc. Very good for hard abuse and impossible to chip.

The Inox is run at about 58Rc and hold and edge longer. I like it a bit better than Bucks 420hc. It can dent more profoundly if abused.

I like the Inox for EDC and the Carbone for utility work.

Yeah, the INOX did better than the carbon.....

Have them listed in my thread...

Those are a LOT thinner than my Number 7 behind the edge. Interesting. I'm anxious to see how they do for you, I doubt it will take long to find out.

They are .012" behind the edge after reprofiling etc...

Okay, Jim...I'm waiting patiently for your test results. I have a lot of women in my family that will be very happy if your results are positive.
Don

Seriously, what do you expect from someone who has voiced his prejudice against Opinel knives ad nauseam?

How about testing them using my current method that I have been using for awhile.... ;)

Personally I couldn't care less how they do..... That's not the purpose of testing, well keeping it non biased anyway...

I give everything I test an equal shot using my methods of testing, then record the data and move on....

The rope cutting is done and posted in my thread, the cardboard and wood are next, then I will write it all up for the full review.

How do you say? My BS meter is going off?

I do think from what I have seen so far that they might do better with 40 degrees inclusive edge geometry instead of my standard 30 degrees inclusive.

Mostly the Carbon steel one, the stainless one seemed to fair better in the rope cutting with a lot less edge damage....

Will see if that holds through the cardboard and wood or not...

Isn't it funny how almost everyone's collective experience is BS, but you're the definitive authority because you cut some rope?

Proven method that has been my standard method of testing so they do what they do compared to all of the other knives that have been tested using the same method and variables.

We decided to test these to see how they would do and add them to the database.

Oh, I suppose life will have to go on after you have "proven" what you've set out to prove.

Not set out to prove anything, test knives were sent, one of each to run...

We thought it would be nice to add them since they are so popular.....

Nothing more than that....

Is this the same person that posted this around 10 times:
European Gas Station Knives....

Bottom line is they are cheap....... And anything cheap will sell....

... and this:
I am going to remember this thread the next time some new guy starts another one about some knife made overseas.... Not in Europe and people pile on bashing it....... It happens pretty much every time......

And I will link to this thread....

It will still be really funny..... Even then......

Then I am going to really have a lot of fun with that......

After seeing so many defending this thing...... Like it's magic..... And really going out of their way to defend it....

Why so rational and genial sounding now? Tired of trolling?

They are still $13 knives..... That could end up being a positive depending how they do in the other two stages..

But in testing they are given the same consideration as all of the others have been and tested equally.....

So the testing will be completed and I will move on to the next knife or knives whatever they end up being....

It's interesting for me as I haven't had one in awhile, like 15 years....

So I am testing them objectively and fair just like all of the others before and will post my full review once I am done...

This thread feels like it's been hijacked...

Not really, it goes more to the original post and question.

So we are really more back on topic now I think.

This way the OP can have some answers based on testing. :)

And they seem to be fine so far, nothing really odd going on or unexpected.

I guess they are good for the money. My father really likes one I gave to him, and even has ended up putting it in to his pocket because it's so handy to have. I was glad about that. It has seen lot's of use and got great looking natural patina.

I personally didn't care for them that much. Bit too clumsy to carry, so they could work better as lunchbox knives or whatnot. Not huge fan of the lock as active user either. My biggest gripe is the wooden handle with no liners. Yes, you can waterproof it and I did, but I still managed to swell it and get it stuck good. I rather choose the easy maintenance of SAK, just rinsing it under the faucet. Too much trouble for me. : P

Each for her own!
