Why are we drawn to fat blades?

I picked up this Boss Street off the exchange, and even though it’s not the thickest of Busse knives, it’s certainly thicker than all knives I have in this size category besides another Busse(mega swamp warden.)

I have thinner more slicey knives at half the weight and same length, albeit less bombproof. Even still, this damn thing just “feels right”. Doesn’t make sense. Everything in blade science says that thin slicey blades are more efficient at cutting, easier to sharpen, and make an overall better cutting tool. With that said, why on earth are fat blades sooo enticing. Similar to a thick cut steak, where even vegetarians succumb to the natural instinct of salivation, thick knives are like ribeye to the mind.

Feather sticking with thick knives is also a more enjoyable experience IMO.

Thick knives deserve thicker fire rods. Makes me think, Busse should do a run of some fire making tools. I think they’ll sell well.

Overall takeaway, bomb proof blade that’s good at cutting and fun to use. Tony thinks so too.

What are some other reasons you think we’re drawn to thick cut blades? Nonsensical reasons are very welcomed!!😁

I like my Busses THICK!

Yeah, they are not as slicey as thin ones. But, they are the type of knives I carry. I pick thick in case I absolutely must use my knife in a way it was never intended or designed. These thick knives take the abuse they are handed in all but the most of extreme circumstances, they get the job done and most of the time are no worse off for the wear that would killer lesser knives. Thickness from .40-.25 is my happy place in Busseland. Plus that chonky weight feels good!

Nice post, well written and enticing pics...makes me wanna leave work and hit the woods right now! 😁

I prefer the middle road on blade thickness, no razors or cleavers for me. I'm a novice woodsman, but have been practicing combative arts for almost three decades.

The feeling you refer to when holding a hefty blade, to me...is that it instills confidence in the weapon/tool. Its more likely to survive heavy use in camp or on the battlefield, and with resharpening...have a long and usefull life fullfillings its purpose.

I hope you and all our fellow blade-loving lunatics have a good weekend. I'm heading back to work so I can buy more steel 😂.

At work, I wear a Mega Swamp Warden on my weak side so that I can use it to defend against a gun-grab on my strong side.

1) thickness is a benefit

2) fixed-blades are for people; folding is for things

Might not know the full story, but they’re dead sexy and feel awesome in hand.

It looks like that blade has had some serious reprofiling. Never looked that good from the Shop.

Jerry once called me resTHINguy. So you know what I think.

IIRC, Jerry and Jennifer came across a car accident scene one evening. Jerry used a Satin Tac Jack to help pry open the car door. Those were 3/16". or maybe 1/4"
