Why are we drawn to fat blades?

Because they’re just so damn capable.View attachment 1981855
That Elk I killed last weekend... When we got back to the truck, I used my NMFSH to easily chop the sternum out of the chest, and to part the pelvis in order to splay open the body cavity more to aid in cooling. She may be ~0.33" thick at the spine, but that tall, full flat grind gets the job done! My buddy was shocked at how easily it cut right through those bones...

My first Busse was the Trough Raider and while I have compiled a respectable collection in the last year, I have just put together my first "Set". I just added a Mega RatManDu to my Mega Swamp Warden and Mega Ratweiler set. I wounder If I should get a Triple Sheath made? 🤣

Thanks! If you can't bend or break a 3/16'" thick knife with a 6" blade, why do you need it thicker?

Geometry cuts. Geometry cuts. Geometry cuts. What I tell you three times is true.

People who need over 3/16" are overcompensating

😂😂😂

Personally, I am not. To me the best looking blades are not "fat", or "skinny" . Just normal.
With the strength and durability (and warranty) of ALL of the "kin" blades, there is no needs to carry fat knives, IMO.

I love my Rat Daddy and Rat Mastiff - and will never part with my special Tank Buster that the shop engraved for me.

Meh. Thin cuts better. Thick survives better. Both have their place but I’m digging the thin.

Thin does cut better in general unless you are doing deep cuts on something like wood. In that case the added thickness really does increase the cutting ability and fluidity of the knife in the cut. For me this is the pretty much only reason to have a thick knife beyond the additional lateral strength. What many don't also realize is that a knife which is twice the thickness as another does not equal a knife with twice the strength at the spine. It is nonlinear and the added strength is many times more then the knife half the thickness. So it doesn't really take a knife being .33" thick to be unbreakable when it's made of Infi. I'd say anything over 3/16" to 210" will be virtually indestructible no matter the blade length.
