Why are you people here?

What they said.
Plus I really love attaining knowledge of the things I really love. While I may never understand my significant other, knives are becoming more second nature thanks to this forum and the good folks who post here.
For this I am grateful.

I get the same feeling here as I get at a show it's like a family reunion where they all get along.

PS Crucible likes this place too.

I'm here to feed my addiction. It's only gotten worse (better) since I found this site.

It's an oasis in the barren wasteland of cyberspace.

I can come here learn and converse with some decent folks who can appreciate my love for knives.

Thanks

I am here because all of you people are great and I feel at home. Plus the people on the other forum are anal retentive and the people on rec.knives are just a bunch of idiots who like to yell at each other.

Really I have gained much knowledge here. I ask a question and walla in a few minutes I get a REAL answer. I asked about a diving knife and Mike Turber suggested a Spyderco Snap-It. This is the best little diving knife I have ever owned.

Then I said I had trouble justifying my knife purchases to my wife and now I have a thread of the year nomination!

GOD I LOVE THIS PLACE!

I stumbled onto this place by pure dumb luck, and very good luck it was.I am now completely addicted and my knife knowledge is increasing by leaps and bounds.Mike and Spark deserve the Nobel Knife Prize!

To hang with other "tactically correct" folk..."here" in this case means primarily "here" versus "that other place" because of "the screwing of Spark".

But it's the same basic people, and without this atmosphere I'd never have owned this

that is an easy question to answer, but the only problem is it would take so many hours to tell you, that i would still be here tomorrow after you went to bed, got up, went to work, came home had dinner, and sat down in front of your computer to read what is new, and wouldn't have time to read it before you had to go to bed to get up and go to work again.
so to keep it short-
my hobby, good information, good people, keep up on prices, getting ideas on what to buy next, trading, buying, and dealing with the people on the forums, etc., etc., etc., and also i'm a knifeaholic. i don't go to the meetings because i'm beyond help, and i don't want to change anyway.
plus it's like the newspaper, you read, and learn something new everyday.
the thing in my favor is my wife is a knifenut too, but that that can get pretty expensive.
with that, i think you get the drift why i am here.
i have 4 new knives on the way here, so i will close for now to see what my next i want is going to be.
respectfully, Larry CB for short. stands for Constantly Broke.

Top Ten Reason's I'm Here

1. The knowledge I gain in here makes me powerful.

2. It's the next best thing to buying knives I can't afford.

3. I enjoy the personalities of many of the Forum members.

4. There is a slim chance that I could win a free knife.

5. Maybe I can help someone by answering a question or expressing an opinion.

6. I enjoy writing, and this is a heck of a lot easier than getting my poems published in literary magazines.

7. I gotta feed the beast.

8. I'm too polite to play bagpipes at this hour.

9. I'm helping Spark build self-esteem.

10. Mike Turber requires constant supervision.

Because I live, sleep, and breathe knives...and since I can't quite eat them...well at least not without costing myself vast amounts of money in dental repair bills, this is the next best thing.

New on the Forums but an old-time knifemaker.
Raised in a family sawmill with lots of sawsteel and a couple of old guys in the filing room that understood heat treating and would show a kid. Made my first knife about 1955.

Member of the Knifemakers Guild.

Will probably spend most of my time on the forums involving knifemaking and discussion of custom knives.

Enjoy learning and teaching (when something in my line comes up.)

I had to revisit this thread because I was trolling for DC in a previous post.
Before I came here this morning, I went to Earl's forum to do the usual check of the Chris Reeves section. This time, however, I scanned several other sections just to compare with this forum.
I must report that the same old crap is going on as before. Different faces-same MO.
Lots of negative undercurrents, evidence of censorship (suprised?).....the usual and unfortunately too common strife.
THIS IS THE BEST FORUM !!!!!!!!!!
The quality people who were also disappointed with Earl's forum have migrated here. And because of the goodwill among them, other lurkers or casual visitors have felt it, became comfortable, and joined in.
This place is healthy. The other is not.
I predict the continued growth of this forum and the death of Earls'.
His hidden agenda breeds the strife, of which his moderators follow his hidden policy
of journalistic control. This has and will continue to foster contempt among the free-thinkers that attempt to support the threads.
"Controlled free speech" is an oxymoron in itself!
It will fail by it's very design.

Mike/Spark:

You guys may remember my comments elsewhere last June about my having "grown up" with telecommunications. Started with a 120 baud acoustic modem, participated in one of the first Fido BBS systems, was fortunate enough to "be there" with guys like Mark "Sparky" Herring who developed the initial concept of automated mail packet unattended exchange of mail between BBS systems known as "QWK" out of Memphis, tinkered with my first 'puter an Atari 800XL installing banked 256k RAM and a switched 3 OS firmware setup, sysoped a PCUG BBS that grew from a 8086 to a 486 multi-line system, etc.

All the fun and comradery of those days has been more or less replaced by an impersonal and gigantic Internet. So places that provide the ambiance and goodwill of those "good old days" I'm immediately drawn to. Your site is such a place. Couple that with its theme of cutlery which I've also held an interest in for some time and WOW (no pun intended)!!!! This is what all forums should and can be and it'd take a team of crazed horses to drag my sorry butt away from here! Besides, DC is looking for a husband and I'm single

DC................
That photo has been grossly altered! My mother wouldn't even recognize me.
It's me. I recognize that tie and that's the Genesis I won last month. But someone has added wrinkles and a bunch of grey hair.
The image you see is indeed scary, but its not me.
