Why Busse?

kuribo: I love my Granfors Brux Axe. Actually it's the wilderness hatchet. But I have found that my big blades are more versitile for my limited needs. As far as chopping wood goes I do just enough for my small fire pit in my yard or on car camping trips. I have found it much easier to simply baton a big knife through wood to make a quick fire. Perhaps I am just not skilled enough with an axe. But I have swung a blade for years. And then my knife can perform all the other camp/yard duties I need. And I am a minimalist (or try to be w/ three kids ;) ) so carrying one knife to perform my limited tasks is easier for me then carrying a knife and an axe. But I love my axe too.

Now if I were going to down a big tree the axe is the tool I'd choose if no chain saw was around. But I don't have to worry about that where I live. I do not think any of us are "axe haters" here. We just enjoy our knives. If you want an honest discussion then we should all keep things on a respectful level. But remember that this IS a knife forum so people here are obviously REALLY into their knives. Thanks for the posts and feel free to elaborate on the axe. I have much to learn about it.

I make combative comments that serve only to stir shit
Kuribo, I take it you came in here just to stir shit. What is your intent? You certainly did not come in here to state what you do, but to tell others ho stupid they are for doing what they like to do to have fun? What does that make you. In fact, I'd bet that there may be a nomination for you in the Pirates cove:thumbup: it starts with PH and ends with TARD:D

That's a good bet. ;)

As for Busse and why to get one (or many), I did it because I believe Busse to be the best combination of materials, craftsmanship, and service anywhere. The only decision to make is what style you like, because the quality and construction is always great. With the multitude of blade shapes, grip shapes, and sizes out there, you would have a hard time NOT finding a knife that is "perfect" for you.

Many of us visit this forum to enjoy our appreciation for one of mankind's oldest and most versatile tools. Knives span an entire spectrum form crude to the higest form of functional art, yet versatility is appreciated above all else: an art blade of soft metal holds little interest. Versatility is most interesting and is one reason that knives are employed even though there may be more suitable tools at hand.
We would all prefer to have many tools available when on foot and away from the conveniences, but a knife is both versatile and handy. This makes it a worthwhile burden even when possibly less than ideal for a given task.
Testing a tool for extreme versatility is a valid pursuit and no cause for acrimony. How one knife compares to another or to another type of bladed tool for a variety of tasks, now that's always interesting.

Folks,

Opinions Vary, and that 's a "Good thing"

From the 1960s to the early 70s I made do with kitchen knives and pocket knives in the woods, and I did just fine.

In the early 70s I started Carrying an Estwing Hatchet, (Now that was a great tool) and pocket knives.

I tried big knives, but I tended to break them.

In 1997 or 1998, (I think) I read somthing by Ron Hood about the Busse knife with this "New" Steel.

In 1999 I "Got Some" (Busse that is) LOL.

A Hatchet is a better Hammer, But a Big Knife is more fun for me, so that is what I now carry.(I still carry pocket knives as well)

When I was a Kid, I liked to do stupid things with knives(like Throwing them)
I learned how to take care of a knife, and how to be careful so as not to break them.

Well, I Still like to do Stupid things with knives, and have found one that I Do not have to take care of and do not need to be careful with and still do not break, That is why Busse for me.

I tend to preach "Busse", I have Been Called the Busse "Prophet" (While Earning Busse Profit) I Even got excommunicated by the Busse Pope once.

I am an enthusiast, and a fan of the knives.(Not all of them, But I sure do like a few of them)

Yes that was a good article. He was given three SHBM's Two without handles if I remember correctly

Why did you have to bring me into this. :D

I don't have any Scrapyards (yet), but for Busse over Swamp Rat, hmmm... That's difficult to answer. INFI v.s. SR 101 is kind of like choosing Jif - creamy or crunchy? Both good, but different. When SR was all respirine c, then it was an easier choice, because they were "more different". Now that SR also has Micarta, they're closer in terms of feel.

Both are great. I have many happy hours of chopping and cutting with both. I have a BM E that I used to limb and buck a 30 ft. tree after I cut it down, and it still shaved after I was done. I'll try and post the pictures tomorrow. It was tremendous fun, and a good workout! I also have a camp tramp that has cut up probably a section of firewood while camping, and is very easy to sharpen back. I'm not sure I could give you a preference. I like them both, and would be very happy with either.

I really like the attitudes of both companies. They are just like Himalayan Imports. When you report extreme usage on the forums, instead of saying, "You did WHAT with your knife?", the answer is usually, "Cool, how did it work for you?". I really like that attitude.

In the end, I think it depends on what you are looking for, and what you like.
