Why can't Spyderco make a knife that is as good as the Kershaw Leek and in...

this op sure seems to have beef with spyderco. he's got a real nice gb&u thread hammering on spyderco too. not sure why he's decided to hammer on spyderco....but so far that seems to be his mission on this site.

Some pawn shop off Amazon but I think that I got the real deal for $32.66 anyway I'm protected.

The Amazon seller just cancelled the sale... can they do that? I hope that I get my money back.

Anyway I pre-ordered a Spyderco Para-Military 2 S110V Blurple from Knifeworks.com instead.

Looks like they tried to copy the Leek to me. :p

The handle of the Mantra and Mantra 2 are nearly identical to the Delica, which has been around far longer than the Leek. If they were actually that similar (which they are not even slightly similar) one would have to assume that any "copying" worked in the opposite direction from the one you are implying. The bottom line though is that one of the knives was designed by Ken Onion and the other by Sal Glesser (referencing the Delica). These are two of the most respected designers/makers in the knife industry and neither one of them stole their designs from the other. I know you know that already and you are just playing a silly game but I felt it important to leave the information here in black and white. Just remember that the game you are playing is likely quite insulting to some well respected and hard working designers. Take care.

Well that's a 180. Good choice. Will it be your first one?

So all this and you couldn't even get your cheap knife. Hilarious.

From the s110v paramilitary thead.

I just pre-ordered one with Knifeworks.com and only $21.95 shipping to the north pole.

This is a beautiful knife with an amazing steel... it must beat even the Sebenza.

Many jimmys are russled with this clown..... Let's keep him for a little bit.

Edit: surfingringo beat me to it.

So you are telling me that a knife that Spyderco sells for $110 MSRP can be sold by BladeHQ for $55 and not be a counterfit knife?

Yes.
My God, did you just learn about knives and the internet yesterday?
It appears that is the case.

I can't believe all the, seemingly mature, intelligent people that got baited into this thread...

Everyone should just click here

North pole... very funny... I'm from Sweden.

Dear, Mikael Andersson

Your first quoted statement went unedited, as always. You yourself said North Pole. Non the less, I like Fjallraven clothing. And Mora knifes...... So Sweden is still cool in my book. (They could do without them North Pole'ers tho..)

Thanx for your time, 802-303

The Leek is a decent knife. I don't know why they can't mount the clip for tip up so that half the knife doesn't stick out of the pocket. Also the safety mechanism is unnecessary. Finally, it's a light duty knife. Not just because of the splinter picker tip but also because the liner lock is extremely thin. Maybe the frame lock imparts more confidence. I sold mine. Only Kershaw I have now is the aluminum Link which is pretty nice for very little money. And made in the US. Overall I've been more pleased with Spyderco's offerings.

Hi Mikael,

Welcome to our forum.

The Leek is a great design by a great designer. Ken is also a friend of mine and He has done great things for Kershaw and the knife industry.

Kershaw is a great company that has produced some really excellent product. I knew Pete Kershaw. Haven't seen him much since he retired. He used to work for Peter Gerber, along with Al Mar. More friends of mine.

I'm glad that you like your Leek. I don't think that you attraction to the Leek will cause our ELU's to change their thinking.

Sweden is a beautiful country. I spent some time there with our Swedish Distributor, Mr. Ake Lyden and his wife, Siw. Great people. Stayed at their house in Stockholm. We haven't done much in Sweden since he retired.

It's easy for me to see that you have much to learn. Hope you get to learn some of it here.

sal

I have many spyderco knives, but only 1 kershaw and it's not a leek. I can't believe I have gone this long uniformed that everyone needs one. Putting this post in the Spyderco forum........

I'm in the same boat here. I have two Kershaws, and.....they both are sub-par. Admittedly, the ones I have are not the Leek, however, those two knives are the ones I grade all Kershaws on. It's an unfortunate situation but it's a situation I own fully.

The Leek is NOT iconic, else I'd have one. Personally I think the Leek, while ok, is not enough knife for me. I have had many opportunities to buy one, and have always balked. It's just not awesome, to me..... I knew what the Delica was way before I even heard of Kershaw, and way before I even started collecting Spydercos.

You can 24k gold a turd....but it's still a turd. [emoji3]
