Why do I hate Cold Steel?

own over 300 knives and not a single one is a cold steel because I hate their products....never handled one I liked and some of the names etc are just too ridiculous imo.....if someone who built a company later sells that company who cares? happens every single day in America and why in the hell would anyone take that personally? a business owner is free to do as he/she wishes with their business and i dont think your feelings matter much in any decisions that were made. cold steel was sold so what. any knife company that I love could be sold tomorrow...so what. no ones "feelings" are relevant in any business decision...its business
Well...atleast your honest about hating them. Can you honestly tell me that if your favorite product was sold to a company thats going to trash it, you wouldn't care? Keep in mind, we are not talking about shaving cream here.

You know, I speak harshly of Mr. Thompson, but people miss the fact that I do this because I loved his product and drive. I feel betrayed and am truly sad that my boys will deploy over seas and will NOT have the comfort of knowing they have a Cold Steel knife.
You feel "betrayed" that a 67 year old man wants to shift gears in his life? Because he sold his business under circumstances none of us really know about, particularly his continued employment and that of other key CS employees?

You're absolutely certain that the product quality of CS knives will necessarily drop because of the ownership change?

That's your excuse for "speaking harshly" of LCT? Really?

Again, I don't argue with what you are saying. Yes, he was very astute and a good business man. That said, his decision was selfish and benefited very few people. Was it his right to do so? Yes. Does that make it right? No.

This is our problem btw. People only ever care about themselves and society applauds this behavior. We live in an instant gratification, go get your own, everybody for themselves society and people wonder why society is a hollow, moraly bankrupt dumpster fire.

You have no idea how good of a businessman LCT is, unless you're his CPA of course. Suggesting his move to sell his company at age 67 is "selfish" is simply malarkey. Nothing "instant" about any success LCT enjoyed. From my viewpoint it took 40 years of grinding determination and nonstop pitching for him to get where he got.

I can tell that most of you are indifferent to Cold Steel, and some even loath them. That said, I am willing to bet that if your favorite knife or gun manufacture sold itself to a major corporation who was going to rape and trash it, you'd be bent, and don't even pretend you wouldn't.

Brother, that shit happens ALL THE TIME!!! And best-selling models get discontinued. So what?! I've been in this hobby for more than 40 years. The only thing constant is change. There were a LOT of really good knife companies that are no longer in business. Hell, there were a LOT of really good knifemakers who are no longer with us. I have other hobbies wherein the same things have happened. Guns, for instance. Stereo equipment is another good example.

The best part about our society is that you are perfectly free to find a quality substitute for ANY product if you so choose...

Yeah, and some of the best, like Case, improved once they were bought.

If Wilson Combat or ( insert custom gun maker) sold itself to century arms or HighPoint, none of you would be upset? I call Bull crap. You don't care because you are not a fan and you didn't depend on those blades.
The hypocrisy around here is absurd. If you loyaly supported a company and bet your life on the quality of that product, you'd certainly be upset if that product was destroyed.

Ok...and what exactky is the problem with saying "that was a bull crap decision and I wish he would have gone another way." You'll sit here and defend his right to make that choice and then deride another man for exercising his right to complain about it.

many companies have come and gone...some for better some for worse. such is life suck it up buttercup. I've worked for companies that underwent complete management overhauls and some improved the company and some caused everything to simply tank. spyderco could be sold tomorrow and I would pause and think well that sucks then move on about my day. no loyalty is owed to the consumer, you merely exist to make a profit off of and any decisions made by a company do not take you into account and why would they

Yes...you are correct, that is true. But it is also true, that if you can't see the greed and moral depravity of corporations and modern economics, then this is trully sad. Just because the world works a certain way and some play by these rules, doesn't make it right or a good thing.

Lots of knife manufacturers out there, you could always use this time and energy to shop around.

No, you spare me.

To claim the USA does not produce a lot of high quality knives is a asinine comment, regardless of your opinion.

No, What's asinine is a "super" Moderator who can't read what I actually said and then proceeds to interpolate something else. Why don't you take a breath, then go back and read what I actually wrote, and stop letting your emotions get you into trouble

Friend, the only one getting into trouble is you if you keep going. Welcome to BF...read more, post less.

Umm, sounds as if you are the one whose emotions are running a little hot.

Is the sale of CS a sad thing? Yup. Is it the end of an era? Yup. Is the quality going to tank? Maybe. THOSE ARE THE ONLY TRUTHS.
