I've seen those master self defense guys... their tactics are based on you getting within interview distance for them to fight with a knife against a gun. I'm not that stupid. I'm keeping 10 to 20 yards between me and someone else at all times if I can. One those guys would never have a need to attack me nor I them... so if we agreed to a little contest... I'm putting distance between us and then... yes... gun always wins. But the average attacker on the street is not a knife fighting expert and a gun is still gonna win out over any blade. I guess nothing is absolute but I can't think of what rare insano world scenario where blade of any kind beats gun.

Everyone else seems to be resorting to saying things like , You're a tool, I don't like you, Your a BS Factory... things that men resort to when they have no logical argument left. You know I don't really care, but why is it such a huge big deal that somebody can fire a projectile into another person at a distance and kill them? (given that the gun has sufficient power to stop them and they are well hit) That's pretty much not so hard to figure out, a knife can be used as a weapon if the person wielding it wants to use it that way. A gun can kill the person with a knife before the person ever gets close. Only way a man with a knife will win is if he smothers the guy with a gun and prevents him from using it. (even then that could backfire) I fail to see the glowing illumination of this. I could take my Glock 27 and pretty much let anybody with a knife charge me and be comfortable that I'd prevail. That really doesn't get me all revved up for some reason.
 
Sorry Jill, but police training videos disagree with you. Thier statistics on the subject state that if the resonably competent knife weilder is within 12 feet of you, you're going to get cut. And yes I carry guns to knife fights, but I don't expect to come away unscathed, just hopefully alive.

Unbreakable, I sure hope that all of your gun/knife fights are outdoors, so that your 10 to 20 yard wishful thinking comes true. Oh and yes, you are a pedantic ass.

Since the topic is Cold Steel let us not rule out the possibility of someone dressed in black spandex leotards bringing ninja throwing stars or, god forbid, a blow dart gun (are those still in the catalog? :confused:) to a knife fight.


Better yet, perhaps at this point in the life of this thread, may I offer up a suggestion of a simple game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Photoshopped Gun, and Chef Knife?.

actually, it is typically 21 feet (tueller drill), which is outside the distance of most contacts.

I suppose the fact is (like my grandpa always says) if somebody wants to do you dirt and you don't know it's coming they are gonna get ya!
 
That's why my personal carry weapon is a Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle.

I never let a threat get within 1000 yards.

And everyone is a threat.;)

Jill, exactly. We carry, and hope we have time to get it in hand. I have a friend who had his ass handed to him in a theatre, for shushing a loud mouth tow truck driver. He has 20 plus years of martial arts training. Didn't get a chance to use it, before his ribs were broken and lung collapsed.

Morimotom is correct, it is 21 feet, which makes it even worse odds. Unless you have gun in hand, and are willing to shoot instantly, a knife fight is a dangerous place to be.

Me, I'm scared shitless thinking about being in a gun or knife fight. And hope that I am never in the position to have to do so. But, I am prepared to do so anyway. Where I live in Eastern Oregon, we never count on law enforcement to stop anything, help is not minutes away, but hours sometimes.
