Why I rejected a envelope.. How not to ship a Busse TGLB...

I was one of the guys who assumed you were a scammer. I apologize for being so quick to judge and jump to conclusions.

Yes, I agree. As soon as the OP closed his thread I immediately realized that the problem was the fact that he sent it in an envelope. The fact that he ignored the question and then closed his thread made me very angry and really speaks as to what kind of person he is. What kind of mentally retarded moron sends a huge $400 fixed blade in an envelope? You have to be a special kind of stupid to do that. By the way he was typing and spelling in his thread I am actually not surprised though.

Again I apologize for labeling you as a scammer. The problem here is the seller. He is at fault 100% and I am now glad that paypal will take away his money and refund you.

Ok Internet tough guy. Wow. I like keyboard commandos.

This is interesting because of all the knives I've shipped yours mysteriously dissappeared. The package was heavily taped. It's obvious that it was tampered with. Again I apologize for shipping in an envelope but I shipped others like that. Mind u I didn't just drop it in. All the blades I've shipped are tightly wrapped. As for all u fellas saying you are going to add me to ur Block list it really doesn't matter. I'm manning up to my mistake so tough poop. Lesson learned on my part. Like I said before in my other thread, I'm new to the forum and shipping items.

Mistakes happen, and good on you for manning up. As far as envelopes go, just use a box. They are free at the post office and are much more rugged than the envelopes. No need for history to repeat itself in th future. Don't hesitat to ask for advice, read the sticky'd threads, etc. If you need clarification, shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to help you out.

I like those envelopes better then the boxes, just double up on them and use tape.

those envelopes suck. if your going to use one then at least put it inside the bag material envelope. the kind the incredible hulk can't rip. Still with a knife of this value use the box. heck wrap it in the envelope and still put inside the box. No reason to gamble with so much money.

USMC0621 don't let the people get to you to much. It sucks. it was a rookie mistake. you have admitted to it and accepted responsibility for it. don't get riled up and let your reputation take a hit over it. You have done the right things so far minus your initial shipping mistakes. I truly hope you can get your knife back. 500 bucks is a serious hit to most people. good luck sir.

Ya i put them in tyvek bags and then in a envelope... sent out and recieved knives the sane way from makers.. those boxes get so ripped up in shipping

I was also one who thought you were a scammer. Not outright, but I hinted at it. I apologize.

Really bad idea shipping in an envelope. That being said, I don't think the knife cut its way out, or anything of that nature...look at the envelope. That rip is 1000% characteristic of someone tearing the package open hastily. I think you donated your TGLB to a postal worker. Just my opinion.

Hopefully I am wrong, and that knife somehow wiggled it's way out of there in a weird fashion, and you are reunited with it. Then maybe you can put it in a box, and sell it successfully.

I just received a fucking CRK Startac and an Emerson Super Karambit floating around in the same 8.5x11 envelope... each was in a sandwich bag... some fing people are RETARDED! Common sense... SHIPPING HAS TO BE THE ABSOLUT MOST ABUSIVE FORM OF TRANSPORTATION POSSIBLE!!! It's asinine to think that for $500, somebody wouldn't use a freakin box!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Sucks you had to learn this lesson on such a high dollar item. The extra $10 or so dollars to use the flat rate box and insure it is worth the peace of mind when shipping high dollar knives.

I am with you - people here really hate on envelopes. Banning members who ship with them? I imagine (hope) that is tongue-in-cheek because after 100% successful deliveries and receipts with plenty of envelopes *knock on wood*, the last thing we need is a nanny rule about how things should be packaged.

In this case I will agree with the crowd that a large fixed blade needs something more substantial than just the thin cardboard envelope the seller used - key factor here being the seller. The envelope did not hurt anyone :p

Here's the deal with those envelopes; they get processed through machines. Those machines role over packages. When you have a large hard object in that envelope the machine rips the cardboard and things fall out. Those envelopes are meant for flat stuff. Please stop blaming postal workers for the damage. It is a fairly automated process.

Ya i have a very old ebay account and use envelopes a lot on there.. never a problem... But i dont seem to have a lot of the problems that people around here seem to run into everyday

Ditto . . . that reminds me to count my lucky stars.

Those envelopes are fairly tough. They are designed not to rip easy. That said you shouldn't put odd shaped items in the envelope. And I will always double and even triple
layer and write the shipping address on each one just in case. Same with boxed items. I will put the item in an envelope with the address and than put it in a box. So if the
box gets ripped up the item will still be in the envelope intact.

But if your going to ship priority might as well use as much supplies as needed. Its free!

As the other thread was closed before he could reply, I'm glad the OP opened this one to clear things up. Also good on usmc0621 for making it right and refunding the money! On another note, with all of these situations popping up with knives being sent in envelopes, next time I purchase an expensive knife from someone, I'm going to be sure to remind them to use a box. Sure, PayPal has you covered in these situations, however it would be very disappointing as a buyer the the lost knife was rare or hard/impossible to find another one like it.

I am constantly amazed at the bone-head things people do. I have seen people try to mail large boxes closed with one piece of Scotch tape. Usually, the clerk will either
tape the box for them or point them to the display where they can buy a roll of overpriced packing tape.

One other thing. Do not trust the glue on those USPS priority boxes. I have seen quite few of them pop open. Buy a roll of tape. Even the most expensive stuff costs 5 or 6
bucks. Also, tape every place where a flap or seam can be caught by a machine. 5 bucks????? How much is the knife worth?

Not that I'd ever consider trying, but how the heck did a TLGB fit?
USPS-BusseTLGB_PMail_zps97195650.jpg

Probably used a legal flat rate envelope. 15" instead of the regular flat rate that is 12" i'm guessing. But even then quite a tight fit.

Regular (8.5x11 paper) or Legal (8.5x14 paper), doesn't matter because these envelopes are meant for DOCUMENTS and nothing else.

No one should be shipping any knives in these or in a tyvek mailer UNLESS they are packed inside a Box.

Doesn't matter if it's a cheap folder or a Busse, use a box.

Start this at .55 seconds and pay attention at 1:05. This is why you don't mail a knife in a document envelope. That hopper dump alone would force a solid object in an envelope right through it.
Then at 1:40 it shows Priority Mail parcels, which travel on passenger or FedEx planes, dumped/thrown/stuffed into big bags which ride in cargo holds with luggage or cargo.
1:56 shows how flat magazines and Letter or Legal sized envelopes pass thru Flats Sorting Machines which are notorious for tearing open when anything other than Flat items are shipped in envelopes.

Documents in envelopes will bend and fold when they get hung up. A solid object in a envelope will poke through the envelope and most likely fall out.
