Why is 13C26 better?

Hi Buzz, here is a link to the info.

Yea, it's great going over threads where you get called out as a liar and question your integrity...good times for sure. I'll try to look at it as I am in with some solid company.

Don't feel bad, Thomas, you are in good company....in the last month or so, Cliff has called Jerry Hossom, Wayne Goddard, and two PhD's from Brigham Young University liars...and intimated that they are absurd....it's getting to the point that you're not anybody until Cliff Stamp insults you....just waiting for Cliff to call Sal Glesser a sad, self-delusional buffoon.:D :D :D

Best Regards,

It would seem these types of derogatory remarks, and personal attacks were designed for W&C or the Cove threads, but as a Jr. Mod., maybe my perception of these terms of endearments and their uses are lacking. There certainly has been infractions delivered for similar type jabs, but maybe there are exemptions for "special" individuals.

Sadly, one may get the impression that hurling insults and innuendo's is tolerated in General type forums, but surly we all know better, don't we?

Although there is some solid content in this thread, for me, it is drowned out by the stage show.

I will say, that it is threads like these, and there are more than a few of them, that have made many industry pro's and knifemaker's alike move away from the public forums.

Kershaw Knives, Kai USA will keep doing our thing, and trust that future 13C26 threads will feature more constructive dialog, and less aggressive tones.

I think most knife buyers live in reality. We don't rely on mostly flawed "statistical" tests of steel or of knives in determining our decisions. we simply buy knives that we like and that work for us. many of you are right, this thread is really informative once one cuts through the banter and pseudo stats.

There is a difference between "knife buyers" and knife knuts.

Buyers will keep a company in business, purchasing at the big box stores....

Knuts will help a company to make the best product they can make.

It is not incorrect to question, it is only incorrect to tell someone who has made the best decision that they can, with all the variables(intended usage, cost, availability, ease of maintainence......)that they are stupid.

.....OR to call those that made and sold the knives to them "hype machines" or "liars", and worse.

THAT divides, it does not educate, it does not bring together.

Very true, especially when such statements are not based on Fact as suggested, but by statistical methods that by their very nature cannot confirm their outcomes as fact.

A question from the un-informed!

How does 13C26 compare to AUS8 and VG10?

I do NOT mean to offen or nit pick.

Would the question not be better to ask

How does 13C26 compare to AUS8 OR VG10? The two steels are not much alike and should not be paired. Just my 2cents.

Are there any North American sources for this steel? Either 13C26 or AEB-L would do. I need only a very small quantity.

How is the heat treat to get it to 64.5 hrc? I'm thinking for my razor: soak 5 minutes at 1090° C, quench, cryo in acetone/dry ice, temper 2 hours at 150° C for a final hardness of 63 hrc. How would I get 64.5?

IT'S ......ALIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEE !!!!
Sorry I got nothing constructive to say on the matter. Did you know this tread is kinda old ? Not that there is anything wrong with that :0)

You might get better results asking in the Makers section, and not in a thread that's two years old!

I clicked on this thread and saw that Cliff Stamp was the second poster, I immidietly thought WTF!?! That as when I noticed the OP's original date stamp... Good times indeed.

Ahhh...where have all the good times gone?

Thomas, It's statements like this that most good timers use to hype the good times, and it just exposes your bias to good times. It is absurd to assume that the incidence of good times have decreased, and I can prove it using freeware (that I don't understand myself) that statistically examines my data from testing good times. This was also confirmed by a couple German guys, so it has to be true. You know of course it is a non-linear equation. ;) :D

LOL. This is the best post I've read in quite some time. Well done Broos! :D

Statistically proving of course that good times actually are made of S30V, but with an inferior heat treat. :D
