Why is the ESEE 5 not as popular as...

Looks like your protecting some kind of crops....(WEED)

Like others have said its the length of the blade.

I own both becker/esee and prefer the BK7 and RC6

It be a coca field in the Andes.

Nope, that's called khat

Ahh, that's right. You're so smart Jeff. Makes up for your looks and personality. :D

Matthews: What's the matter Danny? Something you don't like?
McKnight: No Spectre gunships, daylight instead of night, late afternoon when they're all f***ed up on Khat, only part of the city Aidid can mount a serious counter-attack on short notice...
[chuckles]
McKnight: What's not to like?
Harell: Life's imperfect.
McKnight: Yeah, for you two, circling above it at five hundred feet it's imperfect. Down in the street, it's unforgiving.

the bk-2 is over 20 yrs old, i think closer to 30 so it's been around the block. plus for me i prefer the bk-2 because there's no smaller knife yet. the neckers don't count since they're too small to be a really do-it-all knife for me in a survival situation. if becker had an esee-4 version then that's probably what my favorite would be.

But you should! You can include a section of road kill recipes and the best way to flavor maggots and how to make your tree bark taste its best!

too funny!

When the Kabar/Becker tweeners come out, I would say there will be alot folks that will change their mind.

Moose

i'm probably one of those changing their minds when the 'tweeners are released.

Price. Lots of BK2 buyers out there that won’t shell out ESEE-5 money. Personal observation and conversations with several BK2 owners. Cheaper sheath and scales keep the price down. Lots of people won’t pay over $100 for a knife.

ditto on price.

also, i think a more fair comparison to the bk-2 is the izula...not in technical capabilities obviously but more along the lines that both knives have become their respective makers' company mascot so to speak.

it's like pavlov's dog syndrome, i hear becker and i immediately think bk-2...whereas with esee i think of izula, then 2nd place is no b.s. warranty.

as for becker vs. esee...i noticed a lot of esee folks gravitate towards collecting all the esee knives (lots of posts here with the whole esee line up laid out) whereas becker folks tend to have a wider range of knife brands.

edit: can't believe this thread is already 4 pages long and not a single knife pic...shame on everyone involved! here's my current preferred line up...as you can see i'm an equal opportunity fanboy :p

Yes we are proud of the cult we have cultivated. :D

I own Beckers, ESEE's, moras, FBF's, Gerbers, Cold Steels, Kershaw, Opinels and many more. I just like knives. I like Beckers more though, mainly because they are the most knife for the money on the market.

Or there is something about the ESEE Knives that we dont need many others

I’ve run in to that a lot. The other day I was looking at some knife that was in the $200 range and thought “Or I could buy another 4”. :D

I’m no brand snob, they just work.

why do i get the feeling there will be an esee branded special kool-aid we all have to drink in december 2012

Now, let this post stand as something all of you can aspire to. This right here is a man with wisdom!

I think we need to initiate an all-out pissing contest with the Beckerheads. To hell with all this being nice stuff. We need a good fight with Becker and all his cronies. We know we're prettier than they are!

Well I for one am an ugly cuss - does that mean I have to sell all of my ESEE's and buy Beckers instead??? (and kick myself out of the Rat Pack???)...

No, just stay in the background and don't post any pictures of your face and we will keep you. :D

And if you wear your ESEE shirt and you don't have to pay at all. :D

Or have your RAT pack card and present it at participating strip clubs. Did I mention that the RAT pack card also entitles you to free refills on coffee at the Waffle House?

Yeah, you just “swipe” your card at the club.

As for Waffle House, even if it does, I’m not willing to risk it. Besides the amount of ammo I’d expend plus wear and tear on my Kevlar could buy a lot of coffee.

yep, just put the card in the slot. That's all that's required.
