Why is there sometimes snobbery against Cold Steel knives? They are great!

All I have to say

Don't forget CS's affordable and well made tomahawk line.

It's all about perspective. There are better fixed blades, folders, machetes and hawks than Cold Steel. But for practical low cost tough users they work very well. The fur traders and trappers that laid the foundations for modern North America could only dream of tools made of these materials. They survived and often thrived without ''super steels'' and Aus 8 \ 1075 would have been wondrous for them indeed.

My Mini AK-47 has awesome Fit and Finish.
And who cares about the owner? Do you get a copy of the owner when you buy the knife to follow you around?
Hate the knife for physical traits if you want to, but the fact that LT is unliked has absolutely nothing to do with the knife. Totally different subject.

No it is not a different subject at all to many of us. Not at all. Some do not want to support poor ethics no matter how good the knife.

Others have handled enough knives to know that in comparison the F&F on an AK 47 falls way short of awesome also.

Not can beat logic and experience. Nothing.

As far as letting the thread die. Everyone has a choice.

Lets just stop posting.......
Its time to let this thread die....

Actually, considering that almost all of the replies thus far have been fairly civil and respectful, I think it's useful for this thread to continue. We're still quite on-topic with respect to the original post.

beautiful, good to edc ,it will tackle bout any thing in your way.

/= not sure if i will agree with that thought (my opinion)

Beauty- their beauty has been degrading each year to a mall ninja level
Good to edc- most of them are not practical
Tackle anything-Aus8 cant last with what I work with (Used to EDC a V&D vallaton and diskin with AUS8 heat treated well)

Voyagers ,Recon 1 ,and American Lawman folders are well worth the money.......and are excellent knives!!!!Not many folders can compare with those knives for strength, toughness and cutting ability!Aus 8 is tough but is easy to resharpen in field ....great user knives!!!!!!!!!

A lot of stuff IMHO I can sharpen a lot of stuff easily. If one extra stroke makes it go from easy to very difficult then something is wrong. Also, the number of times u have to sharpen compared to 154cm or s30v zdp149 elmax m390 nitrobe77 VG1 VG10 D2? If you have to sharpen 5 times to every one time that kind of messes with the scale huh /= sharpen 5 times easily compared to one time averagely? doesnt add up in my book

I thought i would never post on a thread like this . . but ahh well

to sum it all up:
1. cold steel has the strongest lock
2. a lot of people don't care about 1 and have never gotten any of the less strong locks to break
3. you can get knives with the same quality steel for less money
4. CS makes some good fixed blades (for the money)
5. none of us are going to invite Lynn Thompson to a dinner party
6. they make "tactical" and "martial arts" oriented products

there isn't a whole lot to argue about when you get down to it . .

my thoughts: i don't buy cold steel for one reason and it's the same reason i don't buy many S&W or SOG knives: i don't like "tactical" knives. i'm more into purely functional or beautiful knives. When i look at stock photos of the espada i always kinda like the look. then i see a photo of it in someones hand and realize how ridiculous it is (maybe in a good way). I won't believe that the aus 8 in CS knives is any better than other companies aus 8 until i see some real data. and until then i'm inclined to think it's exactly the same. As for the knives being overpriced for aus8: steel alone doesn't make or break a knife. if you think the fit, finish and durability on a CS knife is quality, then go for it, it's worth the money.

Edit: I was looking through the CS stuff to see what might appeal to me and i noticed they make a Sjambok. Any company that makes a weapon thats only historical significance is in how many times it was used to beat black people to death and further enforce the apartheid can go to @!%* as far as i'm concerned. silly advertising and insulting other knife companies is nothing on the ethics front compared to making a reproduction Sjambok. This is a real reason to never give them a single penny.
