Why Lynn Thompson Rules!

Thompson is ethically challenged for sure. Some Cold Steel knives are decent, but clearly nothing special. The quality of these knives will likely decrease as Thompson begins manufacturing the Carbon V line overseas.

threads like this are great, because the ethically challenged members of Bladeforums come out of the closet. (And get added to my ignore list)

And who's feelings are hurt by that? Most would think that's a good thing.;) Cold Steel ripped off the rip off, by making a 20 dollar copy of your hero's 350 dollar blade. Wow don't be tempted to buy it and save 330 bucks! All you people that pay over 300 for a blade, don't be temtped! (there's no damn way if I wanted a 350 dollar blade I'd even consider a 20 dollar one) Who cares what LT does? Wow I have about 60 knives and maybe 4 or 5 of them are Cold Steel. That does not make me "ethically challenged" no more than it does you when you go to buy anything else that was developed by one and made by another, later after the patent expired. (if it could even be patented) It doesn't make sense to me to hold one product to higher morals than the rest.

Doubtful the quality of the knives will decrease, but they're being made with SK-5 instead of Carbon V. I've heard SK-5 described as being similar to 1080 and 5160 and SOG uses it on their carbon bowie blades.

Here's a blatant example..... Spyderco.

Go ahead, I dare you to pretend that Sal Glesser and LT are going to end up in the same place after they die. :D

Wow, like you even really know what happens after people die:confused: . Believe whatever you like it doesn't make it so.

Now I understand better where you are coming from. Some of us do not make our ethical judgements based on the legal authority. We get ours from (what we call) a higher authority. I can only imagine how confused one would be if they are making their moral and ethical judgements based on the legal system.

Ever hear of the Golden Rule? It is a pretty good code of conduct even to those who have no idea where they are going after they leave this place.

LOL ..... Ooops, I thought this was the Religion & Damnation sub-forum on BF. My mistake. :D

Tell me you weren't acutally confused by my post. You responded to the sarcasm, but totally ignored the main point of integrity in the business world.

I purchased a set of three Cold Steel Tanto knives about 15 years ago. They carry the inscription - "Emperor Collection" & the Number 0318 on the blade of each knife. These knives have been sitting in my gud safe - unused & in their boxes since they were purchased.
Can anyone give me some history on these knives, and if sale-able, what they might be worth.
Thanks

Are you sure you posted in the correct thread?

When you base every single one of your purchases on your glorified ideas AND not just the purchase of a single item THEN you can talk INTEGRITY. that you use in your spending of money. I just think its pointless to worry about what a company like Cold Steel does in marketing. When you clearly don't even need to buy hardly any knives in the first place. I'm much more offended by the record profits made by the BIG OIL COMPANIES, that I have to deal with than what LT says. You don't like him and his manner? Its real simple not to deal with. Other things in life that we buy we are given NO choice and we HAVE to purchase them. Do you really believe that the business world is for the most part high on integrity? I'm 19 and from what I've seen out of most when it comes to the dollar they aren't. Cold Steel is about a buck and so is the rest of the world.

The guy knows how to generate publicity for one.

But besides that, you got to admit he is one of us. I mean he loves knives. And not just knives, all kinds of big, sharp stuff that you can send hurtling through the air, or chrashing through an unsuspecting watermelon.

The stuff he comes up with is, admitedly a rip off of other designs. But alot of his stuff IS origininal. And his products are just plain fun to play with. How cool is a sjambock? Or one of those torpedos? heavy double ended throwing spikes, that'll knock out prey even if it hits sideways.

I take my Cold Steel Bushman to the woods for camping and for its price it is a tremedous value.

How about , since he and cold steel are taking alot of heat elsewhere, we make this thread, a Cold Steel / Lynn Thompson appreciation thread?

Any fans of the product or the man? and why?

Um.....yah....sure...:foot:

I've got a rental house i was at recently , a tree limb had split & was hanging on the utility lines.instead of going to home depot & buying a saw, i had a special forces shovel in the car. it cut throught the rest of that limb like an axe in less than a minute. best 15.00 i ever spent.i keep one in all my cars......

Got no clue how you misspelled my name in a quote, but oh well.....

Don't preach to me regarding your views about how F-ed up the world is, especially the business world. At 19, you think you know everything there is to know about how the world works. At my age, you realize you don't.

To me, integrity IS important. Here's a realistic view, instead of a glorified one; Sal Glesser of Spyderco runs his company with integrity. Last time I checked, his business isn't in dander of going under. Yet, you seem to wish to ignore this example of integrity in the business world. Mr. Glesser has shown that integrity and profits CAN co-exist.

It's true, I don't like LT. I think his business practices can best be described as disgusting. But that's just my opinion. Oil companies probably DO overcharge for their product. But they don't resort to the type of marketing that LT has.

If you want to pretend that business, especially Big Business, is some evil thing with no examples of integrity present..... go ahead! I won't lose sleep over it. When you're done pretending, check out the Spyderco website.

There you go you bought a cheap tool that works when you need it. Not an investment into someones marketing ploys.

I have more Spyderco knives than any brand. Including many no longer made. I just think its funny that grown men let somebody like LT get to them. The man saw an opening back in the mid 1980's took it has made millions. And no big oil doesn't have to worry about marketing. They know they can screw us irregardless of that. Probably overcharge? That's laughable when you see what profits they post. What is it about knives that brings this out in people. All this whining about something you don't even have to buy. Who cares what LT does? I've known for sometime most his products are not as good as he claims. He has a few good buys and some aren't. Big deal don't buy them if you don't like him/them. (I doubt a man like you buys anything made in China the way those workers are treated and the money these big American companies are turning on their backs)

That's great.

I can't wait to see the looks on the faces of the CS/LT lovers/defenders when the federal laws go into effect prohibiting the carry of any bladed object over 1 in. in length.
And what will be the peoples exibit A you ask...... Proof!

Exibit B.....More Proof!

Exibit C....Solid Proof!

I can hardly imagine the looks on the faces of the legislators as they watch LT ripping that Taco Grande or what ever he calls it, through a side of dead pig and talking about the "impressive Wound channel" and "devistating killing potential".

Yea, I can't figure out why he get's under peoples skin?
