Why no Kershaw Forum?

and thats another reason that i dont get on here that much. a good part of the community is trying to act like your the expert of this forum so dont jump on my comment. and ive been on here for half a year. i dont think thats 5 mins. i mean thats what theyve told us down south.

I see a lot of people recommending what the like and why. You have to take what you want from the info here. Spend a little time and you quickly learn what is good advise and what isn't. If you bladeforums doesn't appeal to you, no one is forcing you to log on. There are a lot of nice people here, as well as entertaining ones. I just don't get how you'd agree with igotstabbed accusatory, unfounded attempt to hijack the OP's legit question.

seriously. its like everyone here is under some communist regime mind control and if you speak otherwise they jump on you and claim you are 'unpatriotic' to the board. i do in fact think its stupid that the majority of members here cant use search or a pm for f#*## sakes. thast why they are so many reposts. there are boards worth $10 to $1 million dollars that i frequent that dont impose these fees on their members. and for a site that requires a fee it sure is slow as hell.

I agree with the repost thing. But it isn't hard to search the forum with google.
The communist mindset would be to expect everything for free.

ive been watching this forum for a year plus just reading different threads. i havent made an account until recent. and with the why i think that hes right. i think that it is just stupid to pay money to search something on here. it really is. and i just think that this should be a more casual place to talk knives with out some monitor checking on the forum to see if your on topic. i mean you guys might love it but i dont know.

Here is a quote from spark about the reduction in server load by restricting search to paying members,.

certain times are going to bring high traffic, and insanely high traffic means server overloading.

For those who are interested, turning off search for non-paying members seems to have reduced the load by 2/3 to 3/4.

If it really is that HUGE of a deal for you try using Google for free…

One frustrating and aggravating sign of our deteriorating society is the growth of the idea that individuals who have no investment of either money, time, or labor in an enterprise are somehow entitled to a say in how it is operated. Bottom line, if someone can't be bothered to make a $10 contribution in support of this forum, then their criticisms of it's operation should count for absolutely zero. Don't anyone worry one whit about making such people angry or driving them away, as their loss constitutes a net gain for the quality of the forum.

I like to finally voice my opinions on bladeforums.com. Notice how only some manufactures are listed, some large well known ones and some unknown ones. One would think the largest and most popular brands have their own forums section, but that is not the case. There is some commercial profiting shenanigans going on here between this forum and those companies. Also, notice if you don't pay the ridiculous $30 member fee, you can't even search not to say no PM. This is the only forum I belong to that does this sort of thing. I have been here for a bit and it seems in my short stay, this place has gone from "for the people" to almost commercial.

Seriously!?!? Have you been to knifeforums-dot-com? The banners and links all over the place. I personally appreciate that BF is clean of that junk. If it means some limitations for non-paying members (like me :o), I can live with it. BF is still the best source for knife info... PERIOD! It cost money to host a discussion board. I'll be getting a membership soon.

And even though I do not have a membership (yet), my posts still get answered and I noticed yous do too. And I think nobody really cared if you were a member or not.

To the OP: motts, see what you started!!! ;) :p

Search engine may be down for non-paying members, but I've still benefited a lot from
this forum and learned much from the members here about all topics. People can feel
upset at the charge, but the way I look at it is it's not my site, all the disclaimers are
clear, and it's also clear that you have to pay for certain services. If one is in disagreement just don't use this site. But if you are coming to the site then most likely
it's cause there is some benefit within it for you.

Just as a side note, there is a way I get around the non-search function. Just google
your question but next to your questions/topic type "bladeforums" and all the posts on
that topic pop up. I've used this method countless times and it works like a charm.

Also, if you have a question you can post it and just say "Hey I'm a non-paying member,
so sorry if it's been posted..." Most people will gladly answer your question or refer you
back to old posts/archives on the issue.

Hope that helps.

If you pay for a Gold Membership you can sell an unlimited amount of your personal knives and gear on the exchange. That is not a high price to sell maybe hundreds of dollars worth of goods a year. I don't hear any that pay and use the exchange to sell complain.

Whaaaaaaaaa! I'm broke & I can't search!!!!:p:foot::p Whaaaaaaaaa!

Search BFC here

:jerkit:

Thank you for finally voicing your opinions.

Manufacturers need only supply a rep to moderate their respective forum. It's a matter of choice. There are no shenanigans.

You can pay $10 for a basic membership and have full access to the search features.

If you don't like how the forum is managed, you're free to stop visiting whenever you want. You choose not to support the site with a paid membership so you won't be losing anything.

As far going commerical...you're totally right...I can hardly stand sorting through all the advertisements on this site. It's just nuts.

I concur with spiralarchitect and JTR357, well said morrowj!

Why do you keep coming back? Something must have kept you visiting for over a year.

This was done at the request of certain members who view the forum with their families. It is just another option being made available. You have an option to leave and quit whining. Please exercise it.

That membership was created by Spark at the request of a member who did not want "adult" content available on his shared computer.

So...Go ahead.Spread the word that bladeforums has a site owner who listens, and bends over backwards for his membership.

well this little talk has been an eye opener for me. i guess all you guys wanna do is argue if someone asks why theres no search engine for non members. but im done . theres no sense arguing with people that think there ideas are the only right ones and that they cant be questioned.:thumbdn::jerkit:

You can search these forums for free with Google. Traffic was out of control. This is a very popular forum, and that was a way to regulate it and generate some income.

This site is totally banner and advertisement free, and this is one of the reasons it stays that way.

Is it that hard to understand?

Payed member ships seem like a fine idea to me. There are almost 900 people online right now and not a SINGLE banner ad. Restricting search saves massive drain on the server. Private messages, I don't get that, but public messages cut down on spam
