Why no Kershaw Forum?

Uh Oh! I just saw that Kohai999 is looking at this thread,

INCOMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

That membership was created by Spark at the request of a member who did not want "adult" content available on his shared computer.

So...Go ahead.Spread the word that bladeforums has a site owner who listens, and bends over backwards for his membership.

so he decided to charge $50 for him to change a setting or two? wow. what a saint. i dont think blocking a viewer from seeing adult content would bog down site traffic. charging $50 for that is ridiculous.

hey dude i have to change some settings that will take less than 5 mins. your tab is $50. youre welcome......

????

cheers

This site is a great deal at all price levels and should probably cost more than it does.

That said, I'm fully aware none of us at any membership level are owed an answer to the question that is the title of this thread. No one should be surprised when the question gets asked, either.

I'm amazed that people would complain about the nominal fee for an annual membership. Then I remember that some of these people could be like 10-years old. Then I think that even a 10-year old could probably save up some scratch for a $10 membership. Hmmm.

explain to me in great detail how charging $50 a year for that is bending over backwards?

I knew my post would cause this topic to go out of hand. Not being able to search really bothers me so I just post my questions away. I'm sure all of my questions have been asked countless times and you guys are all patient with me and others. I'm glad for that. As for paying the $30- I have 4 $100 knives in my collection, I don't plan on selling them. If I do decide to sell one at $100, I would have to pay $30, and bam that's 30% off of my profits exculding Paypal fees and shipping.- Not exactly smart thing to do. It is only economical for serious collector with a lot of knives to sell; don't you see? When I registered back in 2007, I don't think it was like that.- How I remember this forum is back then there was a member here that was just giving away knives if you posted in his topic, a rare generous thing to see- so I came back. And boy is it different now.

I won't be paying the fee anytimes soon, and I'm thankful I'm not forced to. I realize this is a very large forum with huge traffic, but even after over 60%? of the members pay the $30, you still can't get enough to support some basic search for everyone? This topic doesn't seem to float well with some more voiced members here, so I'll not mention it anymore. But at least now the word is out and you know how I and a few others feel.

The $50 is for the Platinum membership, not any setting changes. Anything else you need to know before you :foot:?

Stabbed, where are you getting the $30 fee from? $10 enables the search function. And if you are too poor to pay $10 you can search through google. You know what google is, right?

well this little talk has been an eye opener for me. i guess all you guys wanna do is argue if someone asks why theres no search engine for non members. but im done . theres no sense arguing with people that think there ideas are the only right ones and that they cant be questioned.:thumbdn::jerkit:

no one is arguing with anyone for asking a question about the searching. All answers to that easy question are posted by Spark in the announcement posted at the top of the page.

People are responding in defense of a service in which they choose to participate and support. I'm sure your absence will be extremely missed.

People still do giveaways. All the time. As has been pointed out several times just in this thread, you can easily search this site using google. This site is privately owned and paid for and has no ad revenue. Without paid memberships, it would not be around; as such, it only stands to reason that paid membership should have benefits.

DANG! I really didn't mean to open up a can of worms...but what can you do. I may have registered on here about a year or so ago, but I haven't spent much time here until this last month. I have now bought three great knives based on the information that I have received...this site was a big contributor and help.

I have not yet paid, but I plan on doing so. I probably won't go platinum, but at least basic or possibly gold. WHY? Because I know how forums run. I know that the owner is paying out of his own pocket to keep this thing going. Most forums, that I know of anyway, don't require paid memberships...but really...this one doesn't require it either. Most DO accept donations and many members are glad to donate what they can.

If someone doesn't want to donate, that's fine, but you really can't be complaining about something free, can you? I mean, it's not like Blade Forums owes us anything...we haven't paid for anything...doesn't make sense. Someone is giving you something for free...you don't have the right to complain. Just a thought.

oooooo ok. so instead of simply changing it for free from that member he decided to lump that feature into the Plat M. which costs $50 a year. gotcha.

yeah dude get those 40 pms!

Our Estimated value of bladeforums.com is:
$28,492.13
Daily Advert Earnings: $31.26
Daily Traffic Earnings: $7.50
Potential Annual Earnings: $11,241.79

that is an estimate and doesnt even count the fees.

The people who requested it were already Platinum members. They got it changed for free.

No, he wanted the Platinum with out the adult

yes which is new member tier he created which also costs $50 a year. so no, you cant even block adult content unless you pay for the highest membership which is platinum. thats called sales tactics. he could have put it in the basic or gold. you comprehending yet?

That advert earnings estimate is ridiculous since there is not a single ad to be found on BF.
A few questions for you:
Do you have any idea how much it costs to run a site with as much traffic as bladeforums?

Do you see any banner ads, adsense ads or anything else on this site?

mkf2294 is leaving a huge void here, and will be sorely missed. Since the universe abhors a vacuum, I have just paid for my basic membership.
