Why the $old???

Haha, not at all actually. I don't really sell or buy on the secondary. Just getting at the fact that once the transaction is done, the seller has acquired what they wanted ($$$) and has no motivation to assist posterity.

If a deal was done and both buyer and seller are satisfied, why should they care?
What the next person does is no business of theirs nor do they hold any responsibility for how they choose to price their items.

Sorry, were you looking for me to argue or something? Lol. Not sure why you're talking about responsibility. I have no responsibility to help others, but sometimes I am motivated to do so, sometimes I am not. What exactly are we disagreeing about here?

Im not trying to argue, just responding to your post in an attempt at having a conversation.

I suppose your strongly worded first post and comment about posterity led me to believe you have a greater interest in the subject and stronger stance in leaving prices up than you actually do. Oops.

Well I apologize for the wording of my first post. I'm not normally involved with these things, but the post was in general when I first clicked on it. But to answer your question,
If a deal was done and both buyer and seller are satisfied, why should they care?

They don't have to care because

"f*ck you I got mine"

;)

I always leave last asking price in the threads when I have sold an item (not here because you have to pay to do anything, which to me is dumb it’s Reminiscent of Apple and dare I say Disney) but other forums I belong to that I can do anything after meeting some minimum criteria and then I CHOOSE to participate financially!! So I mostly buy and sometimes sell off one that just doesn’t do it for me. I am not anal about records on every item I own so sometimes I need to get a new range if it’s been a couple years so prices would be nice to see.
This is just knife collection or using not some super secret society that some seem to treat it as:confused:

Many of us don't believe it's a matter of secrecy, more a matter of information that can be misleading, so we don't understand why anybody cares...? Unless they think the information holds a lot of meaning, or is an effective way of determining true secondary market value - a position we don't agree with.

I'm sorry, I must be suffering a logical roadblock here, but I do not see the utility in this beyond people being too lazy to consult the myriad other sources for prices of knives. I though I had a legitimate ethical perspective on this, but I guess I am off-base and if it truly benefits other members to leave the initial asking price then that should be the norm. Is this something mods have an opinion on (if only through PM )??? This comes up every month or so.....

I don't think mods have any opinion on this, else it would be encroaching the free marketplace that the exchange is. :-D

I've come to accept that buyers likely appreciate this (I do when I'm the buyer) and I want happy buyers. Same reasons I try and ship same day, package things well, etc. It's also common practice in this hobby everywhere, not just here. And truthfully, I like it for my own privacy.

It would be nice to do a search for any given model and see an average selling price over some given time period without actually seeing any info about the actual sales themselves. Or something similar just to do research on blades of interest.

But do any of you that want prices left in ever thought that the exact reasoing that you wish prices be left up (in order to know the value) ...

that the prices in some threads might be drastically more or less than that knife is valued at when you want to buy or sell? ... and you may list and sell a discontinued model for half what it's worth today? ... or your asking price is so high that no one even considers making an offer?

The only way to value anything buying ir selling is to research it yourself at the time you wish to buy or sell and then decide it's value to you based on want and or need.

Prices can change often from week to week and just seeing what one ir two knives of this model sold for X amount doesn't give you the infirmation you need and can even be very misleading.

Wow...the gall of a person charging a fee for providing a service...when will it end?

Wild guess but I bet you use Friends and Family on PayPal when you're doing your buying and selling too don't you?

It's a never ending source of entertainment to see the things that people can find to complain about.

It seems to me that a seller's only responsibility to his buyer. What he does to his listing after the sale is made is up to him. I don't see that anyone buying or selling a knife has any duty to the greater community as long as both parties abide by the forum rules.

If you just pay attention to the sale threads, you get an idea pretty quickly what the asking prices are for the common stuff. If you reeeealllly need to know what a particular knife sold for, why not just PM the buyer or seller? For the most part the folks here are friendly and cooperative. Or you might get ignored. Or get told to mind your own business.

If you want 100000001+ emails a day, just subscribe to email notifications for the marketplace category you're interested in and you'll have the prices via email format....fooreeever.

It’s amazing how fast a sale thread can pushed off of page 1 some days with all the new sales that get posted.

It may be a faulty perception on my part, but it seems to me that the number of new sales threads has actually decreased compared to many times in the not-so-distant past...?

It’s just like the weather...unpredictable lol. Some days I don’t get a lot of emails for new sales threads. Then there’s days like the other weekend, I was hunting all day and when I got back into service my email inbox exploded with new sales updates.

I like the idea of a historical record of prior sales on this forum, but I respect those that choose not to list a final sale price.

In the end, more information, even if imperfect, is better than no information.

Also, using completed sale prices from big web auction sites is not real helpful because the fees are so high the prices skew upwards in my experience.

No actually I don’t. Why do you assume things you don’t know when I just gave my opinion. Doesn’t mean shiat to anyone but me so why so defensive.

Like I said I support forums I like with my dollars but none of them REQUIRE me to do it just to ask questions or enjoy the sight by putting a picture in a thread. Wouldn’t this just be beneficial to the members to share this info? I’ve just been checking this place out to see if I would want to spend my money here to be a member but some people seem to be very uptight here, why is that?

Now to charge to be able to sell, sure I can go with that, I’ve suggested that on other forums to keep it to being turning into Armslist or Gunbroker or various coin forums I’m on.
Also why do people take things sooo literally? Just trying to have a conversation and find out reasons for things that I don’t get. I belong to plenty of forums it’s only this is the first one I’VE been on that requires a paid membership to do just about anything. There may be others that I have not visited or don’t have any interest in.
