What’s the deal with people “collecting” one single knife from a particular company? I see and meet multiple people (not only on this forum) that are crazy for Sebenzas or crazy for the PM2 ONLY, and they’ve sunk 800-900 bucks+ into them. Why not use those funds and enjoy knives from different brands/models?

Or maybe that’s the definition of “collecting”? I suppose I just can’t consider myself a “collector” rather than a “user/connoisseur”?

Some people just simply know what they like, haha. Hell, if I had enough money to start a Sebenza collection or an opportunity grab up each and every sprint PM2 I'd probably do it too, but I don't. So each knife I buy is more or less a mini experiment, which is probably better anyway!

That’s exactly how I feel. I want to try a little bit of everything. Why would I limit myself to one particular model? I feel as if that just limits your knowledge about knives, because if you only collect PM2 then your knowledge for sake of an argument is limited to a FFG blade shape and a back linear lock? With most likely some G10 scales. Yah know?

They do it for one reason, and one reason only. It's their money and that's what makes them happy. Case closed. Next topic.

No. No I don't know. You're making an awfully bold assumption.

Maybe, that guy with the collection of PM2s has had 200 other makes and models of knives, and found that he likes the PM2 better than the rest, so he sold off his collection and now because he has a wide breadth and depth of experience is focusing his attention on the one that floats his boat more than anything else.

Besides, to a non-knife person, we're all crazy for having multiples of knives. Most people would thin i'm nuts for having more than one folding knife and one fixed blade knife.

Lol. 800-900 bucks would hardly touch sides for most serious collectors.
If you have to ask why we do it you will never understand. It's a compulsion and a challenge to complete a collection.
I collect every satin blade non-serrated Military and Manix. Why.....? Because I want to.;)

I'm not really sure why some(not pointing fingers) are getting defensive. He's not telling you how to spend your money, he's just asking what drives you to do such a thing.

Lots of varying degrees of collecting, one way isn't necessarily better than the other. To me it's a valid question coming from someone on the outside. Think of how many people ask you why you have more than one knife.

We're all a little nuts in our own way, some more than others, haha.

It's a little bit dumb. "I do this one entirely illogical and impractical thing but explain to me why you do this other entirely illogical and impractical thing."

It all comes from the same emotional impulse, there's no explaining it rationally. To have the most, the best, the oldest, the completest, the ... whatever. They are all just different flavors of the same candy and they all grant the same little inexplicable endorphin rush.

I may have 11 PM2's but I also enjoy knives from other manufacturers. At one point I had over 170 SAKs but now I have moved on to Benchmade, ZT and my favorite Spyderco. My favorite EDC is the PM2. I also like to carry a Domino or Sliverax or a ZT0350 when the mood strikes but I decided to collect as many variations of PM2's as an extension or enhancement to my collection. I dont feel limited at all. I Just acquired an Ontario Rat 1 in D2. It hasn't seen much pocket time yet but I still enjoy having an iconic model / brand in my collection. YMMV but everyone has different compulsions to buy what they buy. In the end if it is shiny and sharp I probably want one. If I really like it I may want two or more......

Excellent response. The OP might as well ask "We do we do anything that is not directly related only to our survival".

At one time I had almost every Seki Made SOG Fixed blade. I loved tracking them down and collecting them. I didn't use any of them. Made no sense at all. But neither does collecting anything if you think about it.

Check the started thread history. Hardly the first thread started by the OP that stirs the pot. Not saying it doesn't create a good discussion at times. But it will turn some heads.....
