Why you gotta do dat?!

That’s exactly how I feel. I want to try a little bit of everything. Why would I limit myself to one particular model? I feel as if that just limits your knowledge about knives, because if you only collect PM2 then your knowledge for sake of an argument is limited to a FFG blade shape and a back linear lock? With most likely some G10 scales. Yah know?
Well, since you don't know what kind of lock the PM2 uses, maybe you need to buy 2 or 3 more to be able to discuss it. ;)

Some people really know what they like I guess.
I personally wouldn't see a problem with having a different Vic Classic for every day of the week, but that's a knife to tag along with you're EDC blade that can change all the time.
Collecting all of just one particular knife doesn't make too much sense to me if this is going to be your only EDC though, unless you want to pair it with a different secondary blade each day to afford a bit of variety.

anyone here that complains about anyone else's taste in knives or collecting philosophy is in some serious denial. every single one of us in here are viewed as weirdos to the the general public. when people at work see carving up an apple at work, they probably think i'm a weirdo. you're a weirdo judging another weirdo for because their weird decisions don't agree with your own weird decisions

I as a weirdo agree with what the above weirdo said about another weirdo complaining about other weirdos doing weird things that only weirdos do.

Well...collecting bits of string, used toothpicks and dryer lint would certainly be cheaper .

I own multiples of single models...such as Delicas and Enduras...in different blade grinds, edge configurations, and steels. Not to the point of getting every version of them. I also own lots of different knives of lots of different brands. I'm also big on SAKs.

It was never about collecting them for the sake of collecting, but an attempt to find my favorite version to use over the years, because the design worked for me. They've all been used, some much more than others, even if some eventually ended up sitting in the drawer.

IMO, anyone can do whatever they want with their money. There's more than enough room for different interests in the knife hobby. So long as you are meeting your essential life responsibilities first.

In some cases, there may even be a bit of OCD involved in collecting every version of a knife model, even with only minor variations. I myself have mild OCD around certain things.

Not sure if it was mentioned before but sometimes models are special sprint runs and folks want the different colored handles and/or blade steels. Plus models can get discontinued and the price on the secondary market can go thru the roof.

I own a few FFG Delicas and Rat 1a in D2. I like the different colors.

Those individuals are asking the same question about you. They state, Why doesn’t he just collect a single entity and be an expert in that one field? Why buy items he may not like? Collecting is a peculiar thing and let the hobbyist conduct his affairs as he wants. If everyone was the same it would be a boring place. Enjoy the hobby but don’t judge others actions. You are not paying For their knives so don’t worry about another. Worry about yourself.

Just wondering what makes everyone tick, some seem to be way too sensitive around here. It seems to follow the same trend as someone who goes to a restaurant and orders the same thing every time. Just easier that way? Who knows.

I need variation in my life.

they are kinda cute, especially the pink ones. come on now, $200+ MSRP for a pocketknife with a 3" cutting edge? spend as you wish and enjoy.
That's exactly how I judge a knife, by the way. Cutting edge per dollar spent. Which is why I bought my condor machete for $12,000.

I go to a place in Chicago, Art's Drive In, and always order a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich and a black cup of joe because I know that's what I like from them at 5am. I don't need variety because I've tried the rest and only want what I like.

Since the laws changed in IL I almost exclusively carry autos now. When it comes to guns, I lean towards one brand: CZ. This doesn't mean that I don't have/try other stuff, but I can be comfortable buying things in familiar with.

Any other Chicagoans on here that go to Art's on Elston & North? Love that place!

Title: Knife Collectors

"I see and meet multiple people (not only on this forum) who collect one model of knife exclusively, like the Sebenza or PM2. That is not something I do, but, in the interest of knowing more about how my the brains of my fellow knife fans work, I was wondering if anyone who does that would discuss why that appeals to them. Thanks!"

Why you gotta not do dat?!
Wow, you got offended cuz he used the term "crazy about?". Like folks here should get offended if someone calls them "crazy about knives"? You are getting offended way too easily. Why you gotta go do dat?
