Wicked Edge Owners....

I live in Ireland and it is worth the wait........got it delivered to my work address and escaped the duty....whey hey......on a negative point one of the ceramic pads was not stuck to the paddles when I took off plastic.....pad just fell on tiled floor and broke in half...........e-mailed wicked edge.... hopefully they will get back to me soon on a replacment

I read about that happening to someone else also so it seems there is an issue with the adhesive being used , maybe not curing long enough in their haste to ship to clients.

Hmmmm keep the quality high Clay.

These things ain't cheap and one of the main reasons for actually ordering this ,besides the fact I can't sharpen to save my life is it's made in America as opposed to china or a third world nation.

I had issues with the ceramic stones falling off too. Turns out they use hot glue to adhere the stones to the base and they probably had a bad batch. I've had success with using silicon sealant to reattach the stones (after removing the hot glue) and think it's a more secure attachment. I told the folks at Wicked Edge about my situation and they had no hesitation in offering me replacement stones before even attempting my fix or if my attempt failed. They're a real class act and stand behind their product(s).

Anyway, I'm having a lot of fun with the sharpener and the accessory stones and strops. Here's my Izula 2, the first knife I used to learn using the WEPS. Pretty happy with the results.

Is there anyone one the forum tha offers a sharpening service using the WEPS system? I am on the fence for buying one. I just got into collecting and have slot of small folders 4 - 2.5" blades. Spyderco, buck, bench made. I don't even own a knife that costs as much as the sharpened would so it's a little hard to swallow. I love the idea of doing it myself though. I thought it might be good to see what kind of results I could get from one first.

Yes I did I ordered some which are on back order 800 /1000 and the leather strop with 10/14 paste.

How do you like taiwan I still havnt been there but lived here on the mainland over twelve years now.

Pax.

Shayne.

I ended up with *a few* more paddles for my WEPS :D I've got the ceramics, the diamond pastes, and a set of the Choseras. I'm eyeballing those ultra fine 800/1000 diamonds, too.... soon.

Taiwan has gotten much better - I'm also here 12 years now. I made it to Shanghai, Shen-Jen Macau, and Hong-Kong over the years. Shanghai's hugeness still makes me shake my head. I loved the mix of the old and new, and the attitude was actually refreshing - it was like being in New York!

I have had my WEPS for a couple of months and I could not be happier. Besides the basic system I have the 1200/1600 ceramics, the curved Fine/Coarse stones and the 5m/3.5m strops. I can get a nice polished edge every time.

Hey Cyruss,
Just wanted to give a shout to a neighbor. I live in Concord, near Charlotte Motor Speedway. I've had my system since January and I love the WEPS system. Before this I had terrible luck trying to sharpen anything. Good to hear yours is working good for you also.

Wrong it's made in Chinia, unless they recently started making them in the US. They told me the reason that it's on backorder for so long is because they have been having trouble with their current Chinese production plant, so they are switching production to a new plant still in China. That's one thing that I don't like about it. For what it cost it should be made in the US.

Romo, Good to see a fellow Carolinian on here.

I don't believe this.You got any proof?^

If you have a kit, just look on the bottom of your box. It says where it is made.

Just call and ask them. I don't think they are hiding anything. I was told this by a women over the phone when I called asking about the backorder statis on my kit.

I will add that I am not happy that it's made in China and I expressed this to the women that I spoke to over the phone but their customer service has been great to me.

Here is Clay on this subject from a previous post:

No one wanted to even consider making it, especially since my starting quantities were so low (only 1000 units.) So I began searching around the world and finally settled on getting some of it made in China. That has been a real mixed bag and has caused us a lot of hardship. We've been in the process of trying to bring everything else back to the states and will continue until it's 100% made here. There are many reasons for wanting to bring back all the MFG here, some of which are: improved QC, lower lead times, wanting to support our economy, and because so many consumers "give a rip." For the record, I personally feel very strongly about trying manufacture locally, so much so, that I would love to have all of it made in my state, even my county, but the industry for it doesn't exist here. As far as the domain name (wickededgeusa.com) I chose that after I found that someone was cyber squatting on wickededge.com and they wanted 10k for the domain. We are a US company, provide a good number of jobs in New Mexico and produce as much as we can in the states, so I do not feel badly at all for the choice of domain names."

I hope this helps to clarify regarding the place(s) of manufacture of the WEPS. It is not through lack of effort that the WEPS is not completely made in the USA. Give the man a break! What's the old saying, "It is easy to criticize until you have walked a mile in his shoes."

Just got mine this week. Box says "Made in China", not a fan of that, but I am a realist. I met Clay and his wife, Kay at the NJ custom Knife show (great people). Simply put, the whole kit is well made, and customer service is the best you could ask for. I dealt with Bob Nash on some confusion on my order, he had a great attitude and straightened out everything immediately. I highly recommend the WEPS, and I'm ordering more stones from them.

Living in china i always feel a bit hosed to order a product , pay a lot for shipping wait for custom clearance for said product only to find out it was made In china .

This is my opinion nothing related to you or wep.

Yeah, that would suck a bit, but in reality, it's not like the whole thing is made and boxed in China and then shipped to the US. Only certain parts are made in China. Then they're shipped to the US where they're assembled with other parts that are made in the US, boxed up and then shipped back out.

What parts are made in the US? I know the thumb screws on the arms are metric, 5mm /.8mm pitch.

There is no pleasing some folks! So some parts are made in China! Everybody that I see here is happy with the quality of the product and find that it does exactly what it is supposed to do in spades. The man says he is trying his best to get the whole thing made in the USA and if possible in his own state. The income the company makes is used to pay staff and owners who then spend the money at their grocery store and to pay their mortgages etc. This helps fuel the USA economy. I know Clay, and if he says he is trying ro have the complete rig made in the USA, then you can rely on his word.
The truth of the matter is that the world operates differently than it used to do. Most TV sets are made in Japan or Korea or the Philippines...most cameras the same...many Americans drive Japanese or Korean cars...even if you buy a telescopic sight for your rifle or cross-bow, you can be sure the lenses are from Japan. I can remember after WWII when items made in Japan were scoffed at and were considered little more than junk. Look now! They also were great ones for copying patents and making cheap knock-offs. China has these same problems inherent now, but I suspect that will change over the next fifty years and they will hold a place much as Japan does now. Whatever, the world is what it is. One can only try to make the best of it.
I love my Wicked Edge Precision Sharpener and I don't care where it was made. I know the money I paid for it is being well used in the USA by my friends the Allisons and their employees and this bolsters the economy. This is good enough for me.

Cheers

Arfropubes thought that it was made in the USA. I was just trying to save him some grief if he had a problem, with it being made in China.

I just asked what parts are made in the USA?
Do you know?

Its interesting how Chinese antiques are so highly regarded, but modern Chinese products aren't...

As someone living in Asia, It boils down to quality control - if you demand a certain level of quality from your factory, you can get it. I've been dealing with this very thing for the past 12 years.
