Wide brim hat.

I wear a Dorfman Pacific safari hat I got on clearance at REI. It's a great hat that keeps me cool and unburnt!

This is a great thread, I have been shopping around for a hat. That T4 looks nice, or one of the mesh ventilated ones.

I can't say enough good stuff about my hemp hat, it is very nice....

It swells up just a bit when it rains, and then sheds the rest, very nice....

And soft on the skin, I have a kinda sensitive forehead, and my hat gives me no trouble.

And they have sizes for water-heads like me...

Here, I thought I'd throw something a little different into the mix.

Normally, though, I wear a nylon Tilley, but I find it pretty warm in the summer. One of these days, I want to make a Coolie hat with Cattail.

I'm convinced that my Tilley Airflow will justify its lifetime guarantee. It's as light as a baseball cap, gives full sun protection with ventilation and has drawn favorable comments from the ladies. Better...I like the way it feels and looks, and I was never a hat wearer.
You won't go wrong with a Tilley

I would like to see a natural material Coolie hat, like the the one in the links above, but with natural materials....

Maybe hemp?

That would make a cool hat, and it would roll up well, be great for a real downpour.

Hats are serious business, I agree.

Especially when on cannot just go buy any hat.... My head is huge, like a watermelon, so I can't just buy a baseball cap at Lids.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I just went to REI a couple hours ago to try some of the hats mentioned here. None of the bastards fit my head. My head is huge, I suppose.

Now I gotta find me a hat that'll fit.

Man I hear ya. Whenever my wife and I shop for a hat she always asks me what size I wear. I keep having to tell her to pick up the biggest one she can find and MAYBE it will fit. Most of the time they don't. I guess we're just really smart.:D

That Tilley LTM6 Airflo looks pretty ideal....might be picking up a hat sooner than later after all....:)

Yeah, the size of my head makes for interesting moments....

My father is always buying zany things, that he finds at second hand stores. So, he buys a hat, and wants me to try it on. I immediately say "It won't fit", because I know this to be true based on many fruitless attempts. But, he takes this to mean that I think the hat is ugly, which it is, so then he demands that I try it on, which I do. But, he still does not understand, and thinks that I did not try hard enough, so he wants to try to make it fit..... At which point he comes to the realization that a standard sized "one size fits all" hat will not even go past the crown of my head, let alone actually even come close to fitting....

Oh well, then I found Tilley.

Hats are serious almost as serious as knives, guns, watches and guitars.

The cool thing about making your own hat is you fit it to yourself. The felting process moves along quickly once you get past the first delicate stages, then you just felt until it fits and dry.

The hat I linked earlier in this thread I never stiffened, when the wind blows the brim flaps around a bit, this is preferable to a stiff brim which will lift the hat off your head in a good breeze, without a stamped string that is.

Well this one ain’t got a brim but back when I was doing a lot of knitting and weaving I got this pattern for a felt beret. So I knit it way over size and wove this band for it.

Finished, I use this hat a lot except in the summer months.

Funny you should bring up berets....

With my fairly new swamp thing look, I have decided that I want a beret, so that I can do the Che thing, not that I idolize him, I don't, but he had a good look.
