Wilderness Gathering in Texas

When in October is good? Right now for me anytime is okay. What place? Double lake in Sam Houston National Forest is good, Davy Crocket National Forest is also fine. We just need to decide.

The wife and I put on a small gathering every Oct. for the past couple of years. We handle all the details(food, location reservations, etc.) to make it easy on everybody. We normally keep it in the central Tex. hillcountry. This fall it is going to be right outside Fredericksburg near Enchanted Rock. We post details on the Hoods Woods forum in the rendezvous for you section. Last Fall we had about 60 people show up to the Pedernales Falls gathering. Always good food and good people if anybody is interested. Wild edible plants, primitive firemaking, and flint knapping are just a few things we do.

Holy Hoodlum Cow, Batman! I didn't know you were out of Blanco! We love bouldering around Enchanted Rock...please PM me the details of the Hoodlum gathering. I may be tied up most of the fall with field exercises, but it's a hop-skip-and-a-jump for us from Killeen. Most likely October will be a bad time for me, but if I'm not too wrapped up, we would like to make the trip.

I second that. Let me know some more details. I'm not too far away.

I soo want to go, but I have mid-terms for the last week of Oct. If we set a date in stone soon, I can have a 'family gathering' I will miss class for...

How about October 3rd being a Friday and meeting and then Saturday doing whatever and then leaving Saturday night or Sunday.

PM me Details as well please sir !

A Halloween Gathering. The 31st is on a Friday. It sounds like pretty much everybody is within 3-4 hours of each other. Split the difference and we can probably get somewhere in around 2 hours. East Texas provides more forest. Look anywhere from Lufkin west to around Corsicana and south to Bryan College Station.

Then again if ghost wolf already has it set up, may be the best bet.

I wondered if there were any Knife Nuts here in East Texas. I grew up in Lindale and went to TJC for a couple of years. Now in Athens and only a 30 minute drive from Tyler.

An East Texas meeting would be nice :D

I am here in Tyler, and if we keep in the the East Texas Area, I would definitely be down for a meet!

Edit:
I second the late October idea. I have a trip planned to Arkansas for the first weekend of October. But that's just my $.02 worth.

This area has Purtis Creek State Park, Tyler State Park, and Lake Tawakoni State Park. All heavily wooded.

Arlington here, new home of the Dallas Cowboys don't ya know. I'd be interested if my health allows. Later in October would be better weather and further East would be better country IMO. We could go get lost in Caddo! :)

October is the start of squirrel season in east Texas if you want to practice your survival foraging skills. Bow season for deer if you are really serious.;)

We haven't set an exact date yet but I will keep you guys posted when we do. We will try to work around this gathering you guys are doing so the dates don't conflict.
