Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

Just coming into traditionals in the past 6 months or so, a single blade sheepsfoot 15 TC Barlow in micarta is super appealing. I also like the idea of a couple of colors that ship randomly to add interest.

Count me in for this year's effort and thanks to the folks making this happen.

I'd be up for a Laguiole, or a whole host of French patterns, or Spanish, German, Italian, or English ones for that matter. Heck, how about a handmade Manly folder in D2 with a 'Bladeforums' back-spring?! This one, with buffalo horn covers, sells for less than $100 - individually!

Going forward, an european knife with hand file work would be a wonderful idea! Great suggestion Jack.

I like the idea of random micarta colors as many have mentioned here. "Grab bag of micarta" you don't know what your gonna get. That would make it definitely interesting. I as well think they should stay away from natural canvas. I also really liked the burlap on the recent run of Hawthorne Jacks and on the polished on the Bull Nose.

I like the sound of a Barlow in candystripe acrylic. That ivory kirinite that case just recently used is also really neat looking.

Sometimes, I get to thinking like an old school teacher (I was one, am old.), reading comprehension in this thread isn't what it should be. Certain specifications are a given, just to make this years knife happen. The options that keep being mentioned have been made null. Same old kid's stuff. Have fun!

Are you trolling?
If not, then I'd advise going to the hardware store and buying one of the many stainless multi-tools I see for sale there. We are discussing a traditional forum knife

No I'm not trolling, and that which I've described would amount to a stainless Beer Scout. The right stainless would put it over the top for me. I think most consider the Beer Scout to be traditional.
Presently carry a SAK and a Trestle Pines Grand Portage. I really like the GP. I put in my idea and observation for hopeful consideration. I am a staunch believer in the screwdriver belonging on pocket knives.
Puma's Hunter 2 is nearly a dream knife for me, but $160 for 440A just doesn't make sense, anyway check out the Puma Hunter 2, give it micarta scales and maybe CPM 154 or S35 for the blade and it'd be a beautiful and functional traditional that'd I'd carry, and if it had the BF logo on it, all the better.

I just read the post Rach quoted, and what you said makes no sense. It's contradictory to begin with, and your "musts" are merely your personal preferences. Some prefer 1095 and other carbon steels because they're easy to sharpen, like the look of the patina, or both. I didn't buy apples to jab with my Case CV slimline trapper and leave sitting overnight because I was lazy.

You've ruined too many barlows to carry a knife that doesn't have a screwdriver? Well, an empty wine bottle doesn't make for a very good hammer either.

I do wish they'd make the annual forum traditionals in stainless though. Something that's a one-time commemorative/collectable, I think, should be something that holds up over time. Again though, personal preference.

Well, the outline 'specs' clearly state

a) Not a traditional handle material so as not to confuse it with the regular TC runs.

b) Sheepfoot blade, single. Not Wharncliffe or any other type.

b) Crescent nail nick. This to keep costs down and it's not been seen on a TC with Sheepfoot.

In point 'a' I assume not traditional actually means not traditionally seen on TC Barlows ?

So here Micarta is the main contender as it has not been seen on production TCs but NF Barlows to considerable effect. Just which colour? I showed pictures of Natural and Burgundy, the latter could be good as most Forum Knives are brownish, tan so red could be a viable change.

Acrylics have been mooted. I'd favour that IF GEC could mix up a nice version of Butter & Molasses as seen on old Cell knives. Sawn Delrin could be rewarding , why not YELLOW sawn delrin could be used to great effect, or Black Sawn or off White? Even Jigged Delrin like CASE's Brown or Red.

Could a large batch of Zebra wood be procured? I know wood appears on TCs but not Zebra and it has a lot of variations in colour and grain to make it interesting. I realize this last suggestion is likely to be vetoed but I enthuse over Zebra wood. Or even Jigged Wood like you see on Beaver shield runs?

I think the specs outlined so far are wonderful. I think Red micarta would look stunning.

I had a similar thought about black linen micarta - there are some stunning examples where it almost looks like smooth black bone.

It looks like the 2017 knife is going to be another winner. I also like the the idea of red micarta or something similar that will stand out.
We are fortunate that Charlie, Barry, and Liam are able and willing to take on the time consuming and hard work involved.
I think this is something to look forward to.

Yellow would be nice .Dont think if I've ever seen it, other than vintage Westinghouse . Love that color

I would love a TC in natural canvas micarta! I really like my new 71 in natural canvas micarta but its a bit on the large size for me to carry. However, a TC would be a perfect carry for me.

You all need to sit down, shut up and eat your vegetables. The forum knife will be what you are told it's going to be.

It sounds like we know what the overall design will be, but I'm looking forward to a poll to determine the material and color of the scales.

I've been following along here for quite awhile, but just to be clear here's what we have so far...right? Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Decided already:
#15 Barlow
Sheepsfoot
Crescent pull
Micarta scales of some sort

Likely decided (but not in stone):
Natural Canvas Micarta

Up for possible vote:
Blade etch
