Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

OK folks, let's get back on topic, such as it is. The "eat your vegetables" and related posts, although I'm sure they are all intended in good fun, don't add to the discussion. Thanks.

I am still holding out hope that we will vote on micarta color, though the natural micarta that is most likely will look good:) What would the options be if we were to vote on a blade etch?

I've been following along here for quite awhile, but just to be clear here's what we have so far...right? Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Decided already:
#15 Barlow
Sheepsfoot
Crescent pull
Micarta scales of some sort

Likely decided (but not in stone):
Natural Canvas Micarta

Up for possible vote:
Blade etch

Well read, Ryan!!

Just to clarify and add information:
We get a special "dotted" tang stamp on these knives, which in recent years has precluded the necessity and cost of an etch. I think we should skip the etch yet again, as 50% of us usually don't want one anyway!!
On the handle material, it is tough to extract a list to poll, from the ongoing remarks/discussion here; there are so many suggestions! I am going to call Bill today, and discuss the pros and cons again, and will report back here later today.

Added info/reminder:
Remember! We are trying to make this knife affordable to as many members as possible! So we are trying to choose good details that don't cost too much!

Thanks Charlie.

Ive been reading these pages everyday as they progress along, and looking forward to whats in store for us.

Ultimately, I know that Charlie decides the details. I agree; skip the blade etch. To make it really stand out, consider something other than TC on the bolster.

If readily available, denim micarta could be pretty cool - definitely a nice change of color, some nice "grain", and not something you see every day.

Thanks Charlie, I have no fear that this year's knife will be another winner no matter what the final details on the covers is and I agree about the etch, the BF tang stamp has served us well and it's very identifiable with our forum. I can spot the BFC stamp on any open knife blade instantly and as I've mention many time before i'd love to see the 10 dot tang stamp grind that last dot off for the 2020 forum knife for a complete run, maybe we could step up the 2020 knife a little, maybe finally get that scout knife we always wanted or get to use MOP or Black Lip or some other exotic scale material.

Always lookin' toward the future. ;)

Charlie, thanks for keeping up with this thread and your dedication to this project! Looking forward to hearing what GEC has to say.

Yes thank you Charlie for both the new information and confirming Ryans well articulated list of observations :D

I basically trust Charlie and will buy whatever he is proposing for the forum knife! :)

I'll buy two of those.

I defer to my elders and look forward to this year's knife. This has been great (and, more importantly, lines up with what I want. Generally. I prefer long pulls, but I'll take a crescent. :D )

Well, I missed talking to Bill today, so I will try again tomorrow!
Family visiting from California - makes it a bit hectic!

No hurries No worries.
I'm pretty sure this can all wait till the family comittments have been executed. I know that doesn't sound good does it? err wait until the family have depar... no Oh dear -you know what i mean.
Anyway I suggest we use the time wisely to come up with some even more preposterous ideas of things to create micarta out of...how bout old credit cards?:p
