After the Krait knife sells out I will have a new knife design. I am
looking for a GREAT name for it. Post your idea. If I use it you will
win a free prototype of the knife. Any ideas? The name does not have to
be in the snake line. It can be about anything in general. This knife
will have a hi tech look and will function for many purposes. It will be
built to perform many tasks and fit in many general categories. There
will be two sizes 4" blade and 3 in blade
In the Shopsmith forum I have posted a question asking for the design
features you all like to see in your folders for everyday use. PLEASE
POST YOUR IDEAS IN THE SHOPSMITH FORUM ALSO!!!!

Couple of quickies
The Caress
The Whisper
Both names denote silent but deadly.Hey it's still early.
Bob

How about "fer-de-lance" or "the adder", both of which are deadly pit vipers in the same family as the "krait". Personally I like fer-de-lance better since it sounds more exotic.

Kylix- (ki-licks, rhymes with hi-licks) shallow, circular earthenware drinking cup, having small handles at the sides and resting on a slender, moderately high foot, used chiefly at banquets in ancient Greece.

If you want to keep the snake's name, what about:
CORALLUS
Is a arboreal boa from south america with big fangs and prey on flying bats! Is the gender with most variations in colors and patterns from orange-yellow to "damascus like patterns"

Others:

BushMaster
Eunectes (anaconda)
Epicrates

Here are a few and what the mean so you can have a story for your knife.

Death Adder or just Adder
Acanthophis antarcticus
Size: 1 m (39 in)
Range: Australia except central and western desert

This snake sits and waits for prey at night and uses its colorful tail tip as a lure, wriggling it like a worm to attract small mammals, birds and lizards. During the day, an adder may be half buried in sandy soil or grasses. It is hard to see and problem s with humans occur by accident. Up to 50% of all death adder bites resulted in death before the production of antivenom. Now, most lives are saved.

Cheetah

Info:
The word, cheetah, comes from the Hindu word "chita" meaning spotted one. Cheetahs are unique among the cat world in that they have long thin legs, a delicate skull, and a relatively slight build. Their tawny pelts are covered with round black spots of varying sizes. They also have unique markings that look like tear-tracks reaching from the corners of their eyes to the corners of their mouths. The fur on the spots tends to be more smooth and silky than the surrounding fur which is more coarse than on most cats.

Cheetahs are the fastest land animal reaching speeds of over 60 miles per hour, but only in short bursts of 300 yards or less.

Modern cheetahs are the last of at least four cheetah species that lived in both North America and in Africa and the Middle East during the Pleistocene era (2 million to 10,000 years ago).

There are seven recognized subspecies of cheetah, distinguished by subtle differences in their coats. Even so, cheetahs are nearly genetically identical, having more genetic similarity than humans in the same family.

Cheetahs were used by the Pharaohs, royalty in Asia and even by the emperor Charlemagne for hunting other animals and as symbols of nobility. Even so, information about the behavior and ecology of them has been documented only recently, and many things still remain a mystery about this beautiful cat.

Akula "Shark" Russian. It is a Typhoon class sub.
This was the hardest sub for us to track while I was in the Air Force. The hull is ultra low magnetic (which means Titaniaum and some other stuff I can't talk about). It runs extremely silent on 2 Nuclear reactors. 20 Missle tubes. It is the most feared object on Earth according to the US Military.

Of these three I like the Akula name the best!
Best Regards,
Mike Turber

PS Should I win the knife, I will auction it off to the members and all proceeds will go to support this site.

I like Rara Avis. A rare or unique thing.

Used to refer to a mystical being such as dragon, wyvern, firedrake, hydra, leviathan, kraken, and so on.

I think it would be a cool and unique name. You know rara avis.

Boomslang

Also known as the Tree Snake. Not meaning to pick on The Chameleon, which is a wonderful knife, unfortunatly I can't legally own one, the Boomslang is the main predator of the Chameleon.

Course there's always, Russell's viper (Daboia russelli ssp.)but I wouldn't want any part of that.

How about the name i chose for my Red Tail Boa ? "Shappa", Indian for Red Lightning. I've never seen a snake strike harder or faster than this boa.

I woul;d think you would want to give it a mammalian name...

Wolverine, Ocelot, Otter, Marmot, Badger

or maybe a avian name...

Falcon, Osprey, Hawk, Eagle, Kite,

Or maybe Atavar, a cross between an atavist and a avatar... If you name it that one, you have to give me one, I privately consider myself one...
