Winner Selected / jc57: "Thank You" Giveaway (In memory of "Smoky": 2003-2013)

Harold, I appreciate your thoughts but don't think it calls for mixed emotions. I am offering the knife freely in honor and memory of my departed best buddy.
You are not taking unfair advantage of my loss...in fact, if it were to go to someone like yourself who loves dogs and likes the pattern, all the better.

Consider yourself entered (unequivocally). And thanks for the "welcome back".

Sorry for your loss, losing a close companion is hard. It may take a while to recover, but I found it goes by faster if you think about all the happy times you have had together. Thanks for the chance to win this Case, It'll make a fine pocket companion.

Very sorry for your loss that is rough to deal with and always makes me question getting a new pet but their unconditional love is so rewarding! Thank you for the chance.

Blues,

I'm sorry you lost you pal! I love my dog and truly believe in the saying "I hope to be the person my dog thinks I am." They love us unconditionally, make such an impact on our lives, I wouldn't know what to do without mine around.
Take care,
Chris

I grew up with dogs, and had two in my adult life. But I haven't had one for forty years! And I miss that special one I grew up with, just like he was here yesterday!
Sorry that your buddy has moved on Elliott. I am sure you and Tina have fond memories that will always be with you.
Not an entry, just a celebration of a good old dog!

Thanks, Charlie, and to all. Tomorrow we will select the winner. Good luck to all who have entered.

I am sorry for your loss, Elliott. We tend to outlive our pets, or some of them at least. But, that doesn't make it any easier when they are gone. The last one I lost was "Baby Kitty"; he came to us as a small kitten and lived to be 22 years old. I still miss him now after 3 years. I've got 7 cats now and a lab. I don't know if I'll outlive them all this time. I know it hurts.

Thanks for the give away. I'd love to own this tribute to Smoky.

Take care.

EJ

I hope I am not too late,
I rely too much on the "settings" tab and don't visit the forums themselves as much as I used to :o

So sorry for your loss Elliott, I know the feeling myself and hope time is helping to ease the sting.

I would be proud to carry and use that old Jack Knife. Looks like it might be in better shape than I am, and it's 4 years younger ;)

Thanks for the chance!

I always had dogs as a kid growing up. They were an integral part of the family, but as an adult, well, I guess I kind of favored the cats. I have had, and lost, some very special little friends along the way...it's always so heart wrenching when they depart from us, and no other will ever fill their place. Another may come along though, and in some way that they have, will warm our hearts and liven up the days in their own special way. Recently while visiting family back home I stayed with my youngest brother and his lovely wife. They already had a dog, but took in this little angel, Hanna, an English Lab (I believe ) and she is a little shy because she had to be adopted because my sister in laws brother and wife's baby is allergic to dogs, and she needed a new home, and misses her dad and mom(peoples)...She didn't seem too shy to me though, and would settle in and sleep with her head in my lap nightly, very relaxed, and would go off into her little doggie dreams, feet twitching ever so slightly, and maybe a little almost silent yelp from time to time as she was chasing and playing in her dreams. Every time I would come to the door, there she would be with a toy in her mouth wagging that tail to beat the band...pretty good stuff really...there truly is no better thing than to enjoy the company of such an animal, and look into their eyes and see such trust and affection...

I know that when I see Hanna again, she will remember me, and will probably go and grab a toy to show off right away:)
Elliott, I am pretty sure you will at some point find another special four legged friend, some of us are just doomed to suffer the joys of this special bond, and that relationship will be special in its own way!
Not an entry please, I just wanted to share ;)

P.S. I offered to take her down to NC to live with me, and both my sister in law and brother said in unison,"not happening!" :):D

Not an entry.

I'm sorry for your loss. If only dogs could live as long as humans.

Drawing is now closed while a winner is selected.

The winner, with post #26 is John...jc57. Congrats, John. Please email or PM me with your particulars and I will send your new knife out to you ASAP.

The winner was selected from a list of random numbers provided by random.org and was the first entry which fulfilled the requirements of the "fine print" in the original post.
I must say that I feel that John's was a most worthy post as well, so I believe in my heart that Smoky would be very pleased with the outcome.

I want to thank everyone who participated in this giveaway for their kind thoughts and the feelings expressed. It means more than I can possible convey. You have my sincere gratitude.

Elliott: that you choose such generosity as your heart continues to break doesn't surprise me, but I remain deeply moved all the same.

The winner clinches the goodness of this current outworking of your kindness; I can't think of a more fitting winner for this particular knife than John.

Well done.

(Congrats, John.)

~ P.

Wow, thanks! I promise to give that lovely knife a good home and a good pocket for it to reside in. I'll carry and use it and post pics to prove it!

PM incoming.

Congrats, John, and thank you Elliott for sharing your personal story and emotions with us, and to allow us to grieve a little with you.

Congrats, John. (And we'll hold you to it. ;))

Thank you, Sarah and Glennbad for those very kind words.

Congratulations John!
I look forward to seeing pics of that sweet Case out and about.

Thank you again for the giveaway Elliott, it was good to read about our members' four-legged friends and their thoughts.

Sincerely,
Griff

Congrats, John. (And we'll hold you to it. ;))...
It was a condition of the drawing, and hence a legally enforceable contract. Next time I have to cut my way through the dense jungles of my back yard and baton through a fallen twig, or carve my way into a really recalcitrant envelope to uncover the bill within, I will document the process with the zeal of a National Geographic photographer on safari.

That lovely knife, which I believe is called the Torpedo Jack and Rail Splitter Jack, fits right in with some of my favorites. I've got it's smaller kin, the Case 6235 1/2 Jack (also called by some the Barlow Jack) in SS jigged brown Delrin.

I love the Barlow pattern with that wide clip primary and smaller pen, which the '99 pattern is the large version of, so it'll definitely fit in well with my modest collection as well as my pocket. :)
