Winner Selected / jc57: "Thank You" Giveaway (In memory of "Smoky": 2003-2013)

I lost my last dog 16 years and 6 days ago as our three boys attacked a porcupine in our yard. About ten at the time, he had three quills in his nose his entire life! We were staying at a campsite while stuccoing some cabins in the area. My mom and her boyfriend ran home for supplies, found the boys and came to get me. Within minutes of me getting home he went from coma to standing up to get in. I truly think he saved his last strength for when I got home. We will probably be ready for a dog in the spring, it is about time.

I would love to add a knife from you to my collection, and would make a point of carrying it while walking our future canine. My wife and I are sorry for your loss.

Kris

Condolences on the painAnd forever with you in your heart

Smoky's remains reside atop my armoire where he can keep an eye on things.

We did the same thing with our 15 year old black Lab, Holley, when we had her put down a few years back. She is resting comfortably on top of the gun safe in our bedroom.
Next to her is a small picture, and a plaster casting of her paw. She always slept between the safe, and one of the dressers.

Please don't consider this as an entry Elliott. It is a fantastic knife that anyone would be proud to own, but I have honestly become a pathetic excuse for a knife user :D
While I always have a knife on me, they don't always get used on a daily basis. The exception is while camping, or hunting..

Here is our latest addition to the family. A registered pure breed yellow Lab. My son Travis picked him out when he was only 4 weeks old. We had to wait a couple weeks until we could take him home. Travis named him Hunter. He is now 16 weeks old, and is more than a handful, but I know he will grow into a great dog. He is still a pup, but has a heart of gold....
Disregard the scattered lawn furniture :D We had a big wind storm come through, and hadn't picked everything up.

Elliott - This is not an entry, just want to extend my condolences. So sorry to hear about Smoky.

BLUES.....My sympathies for your loss....My Chessy is a part of our family and will be til he expires....I hope that is many years away....FES

Sorry for your loss Blues. He was a beautiful dog. Get another friend quick. Smokey will never be replaced but a man needs a dog. Smokey will be there to meet you on the other side of the bridge.

Thanks for the chance on the knife.

Sorry for your loss.

I never had a pet long enough to go through that sort of grief. My parents always disappeared the pets on me. My first pet, a cockatiel, was named Smoky, coincidentally. He was "lost" during a move.

I have a 13-year-old cat that we've had "the talk" about. Sad to see a faithful cat in decline. Rough.

Anyway, I'd be happy to carry that knife for you, you know, if it helped you feel a bit better...

Very sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our beloved weim, Dallas at 13.5 yrs. old in January. It was a terrible blow (as it always is). I agree that another pup can be a huge help, you'll be so busy and annoyed that it's hard to find time to feel bad. Toward that end, we picked up our new Vizsla pup, Tracer Bullet (TB) in March. He's a little red tornado, and I'm busy with him nearly all the time. I'd be pleased to carry a knife from you in honor of Smokey. Here's a picture of TB when he was 22 weeks old.

I would be proud to carry such a knife, I am in.

On a personal note, I am sorry for your loss. We have lost two of our beloved German Shepherds. All I can say is you never forget them, but you find something new to love in another when you get a new pup. It does take some time though.

Really sorry to hear of your loss. Been going through a rough patch myself, and I send my warmest condolences. It's tough stuff, moving on.

Sorry for the loss of Smoky. Perhaps there's a place where the postmen have fat juicy legs and every turf of grass conceals a buried dinosaur bone.
I once had a whippet which kind of got ladled onto me by a girlfriend.Leggs was a great dog.His favourite sport was to tempt the biggest meanest dogs into a chase and then prance delicatley around about four inches from the slavering jaws until the pursuer was nearly dead of exhaustion. I lost him one day when i shouted at him for going on the road. Never saw him again. Strangely after I moved out of that particular place a small puppy whippet turned up on the doorstep and was claimed by the hippy chick who had moved in there. It was Identical to Leggs so I like to think he did OK.
If you get another call him sparks or cinders or ash -something fire based would fit?

It is hard to loose a loyal companion. I lost my GSD on 12/12/12. This thread has caused me to get something in my eye...again.
So sorry for your loss. Please, I'm in.

Tom

Hello Blues. I am very sorry you are going through this grief. It is amazing the love that these great companions give to us almost unconditionally. I thought we were going to lose our schnauzer a few weeks ago. She is old and her body is tired. I know the end is soon and it sucks how painful it is.I hope you find the peace you need soon. Take care.
Thank you for the kind gesture with the givaway. I would be proud to carry that torpedo jack.
Nathan

Thanks to you all. It's amazing to log on this morning and read all these wonderful posts. Very much appreciated by me and the missus.

Elliott, thanks for the chance, it's a very generous way to commemorate the life of your best buddy. Whomever wins will have a really nice memento of Smoky, for years to come, just as the gift of love that Smoky gave to you will stay with you always.

Sorry for your loss. Me and the misses love Weim's and were going to get one or two but didnt find any at the time we were looking so we have Lab's. We had three, one black, one redish tan and one chocolate. The black one passed on about a year ago so we currently just have the two. The redish tan one (wife calls it foxy brown) is 11 years old and the chocolate one is 6 years old.

That is a great gesture and I am sure any of us would be proud to carry it around. I appreciate the chance at the giveaway and I know that Case would look good in my pocket. :D
