Winner Selected / jc57: "Thank You" Giveaway (In memory of "Smoky": 2003-2013)

Man I don't do well at all with dog loss, either mine or other peoples.
Sorry to hear it Elliott. Not an entry for the GAW.
Ken.

Blues, I'm not in this drawing but I wanted to say that its wonderful of you to express your gratitude this way.

My sincerest condolences on your loss of Smoky.

No loss of a furry friend is easy, but some can just be harder than others. One such, for me, was my male Rottie named Arc. He was literally my best bud and went everywhere and did everything with me. He was a source of strength during a period of my life when I needed that. I lost him in 2009 and still miss him. Like Smoky and his armoire, I have Arc's remains sitting on the top of a bookshelf watching over all that goes on.

I feel for you and wish you the best.

This is my first post on this forum, so I don't qualify for the drawing, but I wanted to share my condolences nonetheless. We lost our Australian Shepherd last year and our whole family was heart broken. Anyway, this is a nice thing that you're doing and I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss.

That is awful news, Me and my wife are both saddened to hear this. It's safe to say that we are dog people. We have come to realize that the first major trauma in our newborn daughters life will likely be the loss of our beloved Australian Kelpie "Lucy". We had to put our beloved newfie "Hoss" down 4 years ago, and we still feel the loss. Sorry for your loss, Smokey looks like a fine canine.

The thing that helped us most and started the healing was rescuing our sweet Lucy.

This is a Photo of Hoss...

And one of Lucy the day My wife picked her up from the shelter..

And last, a picture of "Pluto" a 235lb bruiser that drew a crowd at the vet clinic we volunteer at. This was during a dog blood drive.

**not an entry, it's a fine knife though and you are generous for giving it away. This has to be one of the best giveaway threads I have ever seen. Very touching.

Thanks for all the new replies and shared thoughts, folks...means the world. Still a few more days until we pick a winner. Most likely sometime on Saturday.

Beautiful knife fitting for the memory beautiful dog. I would be sure to drop that yeller piece in my pocket on a very frequent basis.

Our one and only growing up was a female bloodhound, Barley, that lived to be twelve (ripe old age for a dog that weighed in at over 120 lbs.!) The most horribly stubborn creature alive. Nothing but nose and stomach and steadfast determination to follow the desires of both. She could howl something melodic though. And helped keep the family at ease. Hard to be stressed when you're in a room with a big hairy snoring sack of wrinkles and ears.

Many condolences for your loss. Thanks much for the generous GAW.

Jon

I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs don't really ask for much and give back so much more. I really feel for you.

I'd love to be included. :hs:

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I know how your feel. I lost my dog of 12 years just the other night. He died in his sleep. It's heartbreaking. They are family. It's a wonderful tribute to a wonderful family member. The knife is great!

Here are photos of my baby boy Major.

Elliott,
thank you again for your generosity, and for letting us into a hard moment of your life.
Hopefully, the many posts on this thread will make you feel our support :)
This is not an entry (it's a beautiful knife, but too big for my pockets, so I'll leave it to someone who will actually carry it).
Thank you again. And keep us posted about any new friend taking possession of your couch :)

Oh man - always such heart-felt reading about our beautiful friends that come with fur! A great Give-away Elliot for such a neat memory of Smokey, I hope the lucky winner thinks of Smoky once in a while when using that knife!
Godd Luck everyone!

It does make one hope that there might be something else waiting for us after our time here on earth is over. Seeing that big ol' boy again would be a wonderful reward.

Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone. Looks like three more days until we select a winner.

Not an entry, but just wish to express my sympathies for your loss.

The good ones seem to stay with you long after they've passed on, and it sounds as though Smoky certainly was one of them.

Reminder: Two days left before a winner is picked. Good luck.

Not an entry. Blues old pal the loss of a good dog is one of the hardest. All my best to you and Mrs. Blues.

Thanks, Bill, I appreciate it very much. Been a long time. Hope you are well.

Blues I have mixed emotions on this thread. I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Smokey, as I have lost 3 very good dog friends. Others come along to take some of your heart, but there is still the almost daily reminder of the ones gone on. Animals offer unconditional love that is hard to compare. I am sure of you and wife finding another to offer companionship for you and wife. The giveaway is a great thing for you to do. Now for the mixed emotions---I have way more knives than I will ever use up, but the night before you started this thread, I was looking at the Case knife collecting book and saw this knife. I was drawn to the color, and pattern that I put it on the top of my wish list. So can't decide to just offer condolences for Smoke, or also put in for the chance of winning.
So glad that you are back sharing your knowledge with us here in Traditionals, missed your input much. Good luck in your search for a new friend.
Harold
