WIP: Arkansas locking Hunter

Great info, Eric! What year is that ad from??
Can't wait to hear what the old Schrade guys have to say!

I was admiring the shield yesterday on the new Arkansas Hunter, and thought it might have looked good on the 2010 Moose. It did not dawn on me at the time they used that shield on the Schrade Heritage Series, which is a great series of knives.

Ken has done an awesome job on this knife, and it has sure been a pleasure watching it take shape. Fantastic thread to go along with the knife itself.

The Empire shield is an excellent selection!

Phenomenal work Ken.
This hole-in-the-wall look at your knife building process has been a real treat.
It turned out fantastic!

Great thread!
Fascinating stuff and it inspires me to look a bit more into what kind of setup I'd need to make my own knives.
Thanks.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I made it back in the shop bright and early and spent the day hand finishing the knife. The flats and facets add considerable time to a build but I think the results speak for themselves.

I will add a few pictures of marking the blade then the finished set. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for following along, posting comments. When I do a WIP like this one, and get input back as I build the knife, the knife becomes even more special to me. THANKS!!

Getting ready to put the final hand finish on the blade before putting my mark on it. I have many different sticks, shaped bone etc. to back up the sandpaper.

I have the blade masked and stencil on, ready to etch

After the etching

The final step is to put this knife together, peen, spin the pins, and finish. I will have a set of pictures posted in just a few minutes.

:eek::eek: Ken, I'm speechless. A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y gorgeous!!!!

This was a fantastic thread, thanks again for putting it up!!

Ken,

What a fantastic WIP thread! Thanks again for sharing this with us! The jigging and the dying really match well. Please don't shoot me with the Parker, but I just need to ask...as someone from down Wilfred way would ask.. "Does it cut?" :D Your explanation matched the photos to a "T".

Hurry up and hide your phone number! Ha!

Kent

That knife is worthy of being in the same kit as a Parker!
First class equipage on both counts!
Thanks for the spellbinding show, and for making a great knife Ken!

Congrats to both of you. Thanks for sharing this project; I could hardly wait for it to be finished. Ken, that is some of the nicest jigged bone I have ever seen. Well done!

Duane

thanks ken for taking us with you on the fantastic journey. few people are as talented & as generous with their knowledge as yourself. dennis

That's incredible. To think that you made everything from scratch, from jigging the bone to cutting and grinding the blade...I'm in awe.
