WIP - Starting a new batch, all D2 Updated 4/25/11 New Progress

Super clean grinds and great lines. Great handle material too!

I've got to ask, where did you get the lime green micarta (or g10?) It looks killer!

Well, got stuck doing sharpening work for some old customers and re-handling a cleaver for a friend, but I did manage to profile out another blade.

This is the second of the two Mini Drop Points ground from the thin .118" stock. The first one was the one that I did the full flat grind on, which is great for slicing but I prefer to leave some flats with a swedge. I thought this stock was too thin to have a decent looking swedge on both sides so I tried something different with this one and went for a single sided swedge. I kind of like it. I think the swedge gives it the look of a beefier blade and helps keep things nice and thin toward the tip for good slicing ability.

Here are some pics:

Well, been plugging away at bevels the last few days and got all of my tube stock cut for pins and lanyard holes. Doing a group of knives and having them all come out the same is not all that easy for me, at least not yet, especially without the use of any waterjet or CNC for my blanks. That being said, I've been trying to do my best to keep a reasonable amount of symmetry on these Mini Drop Points.

Here are a few pics of four of them together after bevels and swedges were finished:

They are coming together quite nicely, very consistent!

Thanks for telling me where you found the Toxic Green, it is cool stuff.

those are some lil beauties right there...cant wait to see the finished products, and i hope one of those bad boys has my name on it :D

Didn't get too much done today because I went to take the kids to school this morning and the drive shaft on the garage door opener snapped:( Two hundred dollars and a few hours later I had installed a new opener and cut up the old one with an angle grinder so I finally got around to doing what I was supposed to be doing today.....grinding!:D

Once I got started I got the profile and swedge ground on the first of the larger knives in this batch, a newly modified XL. This new tweak on the Mini Drop Point XL has a wider blade and a more substantial handle. With a spine thickness of .176" I think this one is gonna be a stout little bugger! Looking forward to finishing one of these.

Here are a couple shots.

You are a multi talented guy. Moving from garage repair right into knife grinding shows great adaptability grasshopper.

Sorry for my glibness; I just left the sawzall thread and my mind is a little rattled. Please excuse me.

Looking good Jon. Your blades are becoming quite refined.

Thanks Tim, just three more and this one is ready to be sent out to heat treat......and the last batch hasn't even gotten back yet, so I feel like I'm ahead of schedule:thumbup:
