I don't want to pollute other threads with my making adventures, so how about a Work In Progress thread, WIP-weekend.
I hope other makers will join this thread as well.

On my workbench at the moment a lambsfoot. I'm going to leave it pinchable with no nail nick/pull and I'm thinking about brass liners, bronce bolsters and cocobolo scales.

And this model I don't know what to call but I want to keep it light, handy and not to large.

Question:
Is cutlery related amature ... very ... very ... amature ... leatherwork also welcome in this thread?

I have a couple projects in mind that might make it past the planning stage during '24 ... provided I can get the materials (and perhaps a few tools) I need. 😇

Well if it is leather work for traditional knives I'd be very happy if you share it here :)

BTW here are some friendly and helpfull people if you have questions on leather work: https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sheaths-such.820/

Well ... IMHO thems the only ones "worth" buying and using.
I'm in no hurry to open my knife.
1.x ~ 2.x seconds using both hands is "just as good" as the 0.x ~ 1.0 seconds of the "flippers" and/or "assisted openers' and/or automatics/"switch bades", for me. AS an added advantage, "traditionals" can (currently) have one to six blades ... excluding current Victorinox which can have more, depending on the model. I prefer 2 or more blades per folding knife. They more versitile. 😁👍

They used to make up to EIGHT blade ... (excluding Victorinox, what currently has a TEN layer available. (Evo Grip S51) 🤯😳😇)

A WIP thread is a great idea! Show off your skills!!
I personally enjoy seeing the different appoaches to folder making!!

Saturday in the worksop, sunday for the family.
I realy like the Bose warncliffe trapper, I think it makes a perfect EDC. Tony Bose always made his patterns available to others. It's a drawing that gets you on the way but still a lot to figure out yourself.

Two identical springs. I leave a bit of extra meat on the bone. Some or all marked blue can be removed after HT to make the spring softer and fine tune the action.

The trapper has a shiny false edge and the warncliffe has a shiny round spine. I like working on details like that.

All they need now are nail nicks, a bit of sanding and then they're ready fot HT.

Very cool thread. I’m going to make folders
When I retire. I have many years until then to learn from this thread. Thanks for starting it.

Yesterday I send six slipjointblades and springs out for HT, a big step for me.
Four single blades and one double, numbers 17-21. I'm learning a lot and I'm enjoying the process, working on them and getting better.
I'm liking these long nail pulls. These three are slightly different, the top has slanted edges, the middle has rounded edges and the bottom has straight edges.
Nail nicks are still a chalange. I have a new cutter on order but my machine doesn't take the large cutters some makers use for large nicks.
It's all about learning to work with what you have.

It took 3 weeks to get my work back HT'ed. I don't mind the wait, the HT is good and comes including cyro for the best result.

I started off with the first three blades. The brown handle is temporary, the sheepfoot will get cocobolo scales and the zulu will get jigged bone.

Would you call this blade a spey?
It is a prototype I hope to have ready for Christmass. I think combined with a warncliffe as a two blade knife it should make a good EDC.
(I may do that on a next batch)
It is 3 5/32" closed, 9/32"thick and weight less then 1 ounce. I'm not a CF-person but I do like how light plays with the material and it weighs next to nothing!
Looking forewards to having this one finished and in my pocket.

Your work is fantastic, I wish I could do a 10th of that, thank you for sharing.
I don't think there is anything wrong at all in sharing what you do- exposure is at times the best thing, I hope any critique is given supportively, but from my point of view I am loving what you are doing and I am envious.

I wouldn't call that a Spey, It is still in the Drop Point neighbourhood if you ask me :)

Nice Work!

I believe these are called a Kennedy jig, basicaly a Ruple jig that can be used with the spring under tention.
They are used to make sure the knife is flush in all three positions and I made this one myself.

I lost count how many times I had to start this one over. I did manage to hide the pivot pin in the shadow disk in the end but because I tried to make it without metal liners and carbon fibre is flimsy it gave other problems. I took it apart again and start over again either with metal liners or completely different scales.
Learning how to make slipjoints is humbling, but it is not about having the knife, it is about being able to make the knife good.

A Zulu spear with bone scales. I plan to jig and dye them after rough shaping them.
It also shows that the pivot pin doesn't have to go trough the middle of het shadow disc. This way the shadow disc can be centered.

And this is a prototype I am liking a lot. I think a spear point is a good compromise between a warncliffe and a bellied blade, but looks less agressive then a clippoint.
It has soldered bolsters and cross cut vintage micarta scales

Very nice work done by all posting, I also wish i had 1/10 th. of your talents.

Please keep sharing.

Tony Bose always freely shared his patterns. This one is based on his zulu spear and has unbleached cattle bone scales.
I think they looked good as they where, but I also like jigged bone and at the moment it is more about learning how to make these knives.
Jigged white bone looked good as wel but I coloured them twice with potasium permanganate and I like the classic look it gives.

Is this two-colour bone what is considired Remington bone?

The bone considered Remington Bone was a salvaged historic bone. (Some think Schrade, not Remington!!) Actual Rem Bone has a slightly different jig than your beautiful stuff!!

Finished this one today and I'm pretty happy with this one.
The biggest reward for me is having made the knife. Ending up with a new EDC is a nice bonus.
Tony Bose pattern zulu spear, self jigged bone, convex hammered pins and a rounded spine to comfortably place your thumb on.

Nice Job!!! Congrats!!

I've shown this one in post #11 and #13 with carbon fibre scales.
I've lost count how many times I started over but I just couldn't get it right. Sometimes you just have to let it rest for a while.
I started over and decided to go a completle different way. I had some white(ish) paper micarta and decided on proper barlow bolsters.
It has a 2 11/32" blade and is 3 5/32 overall.

I'm learning how to make these sliojoints, I decided to have some fun :)
