Women and Knives: Why More Women Need To Carry A Blade

Bladegirl, you'd definitely get some appreciative looks if you strolled into Gander Mountain or Bass Pro wearing that outfit with your leg holster. I think it's kind of cool, but I know it is not for me. Hope you have fun with it.

I'd save the leg holster for tomb raiding, and use something a bit more practical for outdoor recreation, myself.

Be careful what you wish for, my friend, because I'm uploading pics of me in my orange bushcraft banana hammock as we speak! I'm wearing my firefighter helmet too! Stone cold sexy!

And I am wearing a neck knife in them. Got it on a gold chain. Kinda Burt Reynolds/John Travolta Ironically its a Fallkniven WM1.

I think the leg holster is cool as all get out.. BUT..aside from it being cool in re to how it looks, for me, it is very comfortable and would work really great. Thanks!

To stay on topic...So have you used it? (Other than for selfies...) Earlier you said it works great, then you said you can't wait to use it, and here it is "would work great". Just curious what conclusions you have drawn from using the rig.

Do notice that we also haven't seen half of marcinek's butt when he posts pics of knives.
When did men become so offended by a woman "showing half her butt?" BTW, something must be wrong w my phone, all I got to see was some lower back. Please resend the booty pics. Lol

Also, marcinek, thank you for not showing half of YOUR butt. :D

Alright brace yourselves. I'm 'bout to tell you what I tell all the ladies lookin' for a knife for self-defense.

Get yourself a good bludgeon!

A bludgeon, with a nice no-slip grip, is way better for just swingin' around bashing wayward hands and other unwanted grasping protuberances! Nobody can stand up to a flurry of bludgeon swings, and when they get to the hospital they can at least claim they fell down the stairs!

What variety of bludgeon would you suggest? I like the medieval options personally, but they're kinda large for EDC.

Most women who carry knives don't clip them to their pocket while most men who carry them do. This can make it seem that women don't carry knives but many do. In fact, in my experience the number of men who carry a knife is about equal to the number of women who carry a knife. This includes small multitools, SAKs and the like. Men are more likely to carry something with a larger/longer blade, that deploys quicker, and that has more premium steel/materials.
I've never met a woman who carried an automatic knife, although I have met plenty of men who do. I'm sure they are out there but I guess they are fewer and farther between.
I've also never met a woman who had a job requiring the common use of a knife who didn't also have an interest in knives.
When I was in the rural/mountainous areas of NY, Colorado and Washington I did see some women who openly carried knives in a sheath or with a pocket clip. Invariably, I never saw this in the urban areas of any state that I've been to.

Puma German Steel Fixed Blade In Leg Holster

EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS/IDEAS/OPINIONS/EXPERIENCES WELCOME!

When many of us think of women in situations that are normally a man's hobby, such as guns, knives, hunting, etc. it can seem 'sexy' or 'hot' to some. Then, to others, it is mind boggling why a woman would ever be interested in such a thing. But let's look beyond the sexy and beyond the intrigue at the reality of it. Out of everyone who should have a knife, shouldn't more women be interested in them for at least, if nothing else, protecting themselves? Shouldn't women want to know how to survive if they are alone, or alone with their kids, and get stuck in a bad situation? Or, in the dreaded event an attacker comes on the scene? Don't get me wrong. I'm not lumping all women into one group here. I know there are many women interested in these things, and more. However, in my opinion, the vast majority of women are mainly interested in more 'girly' types of activities. I won't lie, I am too. But, I ALSO appreciate knives and every day carry topics. Not only is it a fun hobby, but, I think it is of the utmost to prepare oneself for the unexpected.

I grew up with a dad who was into Buck knives and I would watch him as he sat for ours sharpening, polishing, etc. But, my boyfriend re-inspired my interest. I am the type of person who genuinely takes an interest in things that the person I care about is interested in. So, I took an interest in his knife talk and his large knife collection (and his Blade Forums postings...:)) and my interest was instantly re-ignited. He still has to correct me all the time on types of knives, patina, and so forth, as I am learning.

My overall point is that I feel more women could genuinely benefit from taking an interest in knives and EDC items. Knives can be used for so many different things---from opening a letter or a bottle, to a quick screw while out and about (if you have a knife, such as a SAK that has a screwdriver on it.) And, as a means of survival and self defense. One should know the proper way to use a knife in self defense so that it is not turned and used on them...and, of course, other proper knife handling technicalities.

However, let's be ready...be prepared...and be smart because you never know when you might need it.

Swiss Army Knife Explorer In Camo

Hi Blade Girl

I think it is always great to hear that there are also woman, who can share passion for knifes and edged weapons. For me, it is very positive for sure and speaking for many guys here,we are always glad to have you and other women like you within circles, who appreciate same and common things together.Every guy who likes knifes, would surely be more than happy to have a company of woman, who instead of going bersekr and furious over DHL /FEDEX pulling near by place of living,,,share rather passion and excitement and could along together just be happy too....

I do not show to my wife usually any knife that's coming through,as she have very little or rather no understanding for it and however she usually do not carry any knifes, she is close to them in kitchen.....

Since i do like the knifes, but generaly do not prefer to dodge them flying around i have to keep her happy and rather not to try to share my passion with her,as this would be going a bit too far....So i wish many more woman are like you Blade Girl

Thank You for your participation here!
Wish you best of luck!

(p.s.-very good choice of blade,,, speaking of German Puma!)

For those having a problem, I'd advise you stop trolling the thread with off topic comments. You know who you are. If you cannot appreciate the discussion for what it is, then move right along. Keep those pearls of wisdom to yourself.

Blade Girl, my wife is also interested in a lot of things that tend to intimidate some men. She has her own assault weapons, motorcycle, truck (Honda Ridgeline), 4-wheeler, boat(at one time) knives, and various Camo apparel, and still retains her femininity. She enjoys things that have been, largely, male dominated interests but makes them her own in an entirely female way. Before we married, many of her 'dates' frowned upon her hobbies as if they made her, somehow, less than female. I told her that it didn't surprise me in the least and that it probably intimidated some. I say, more power to my wife, you, and all the other wives/girlfriends, daughters and the like that express themselves through their hobbies....and if the men in their lives can't handle it then maybe you need to lend them a SKIRT!!!

Yeah! I can't wait to see that. Please drop me a link so I can ogle. Thanks!

Thank you Serious Bladeno...I appreciate your 'kind' words :-) I love knives just as much as every man/woman who browses this forum who is a 'serious' knife collector. I share the same appetite for new knives and literally oooh and ahhh and drool over knife pics like many of you I'm sure do. And, that is why I came here...to share the love and passion for knives and to learn more from other people who post here. Thanks again and your thoughts were very kind. :-)

A whole new meaning for the term "bushcraft!"

Folks, Please read post #511.... you need to ignore the trolls and discuss the topic, it only encourages the trolls to post further and creates more work for the mods. Thank you.

Thanks, Cate! Yes..these are not the best pics, as I took them really fast with little thought to the arrangement or perfection of them, but wanted you to see them. Will probably take better ones later and post elsewhere on here. I was hurrying so that you would get to see before you left or got off of here :-) I ordered them from KnifeWorks and the owner, who is on here, has been so nice to help me! They had an offer where you can get an Opinel with something engraved on the blade..so I had "Blade Girl" added to it just for fun! BTW I'm telling everyone on my Facebook (i have tons of fans and followers) and in my youtube videos about BladeForums :-) On Youtube, I have nearly 30,000 subs...so hopefully it will help bring in more business for BladeForums here... would be great! I've met so many good people and many of the mods have been so helpful to me, advising me and so forth... Morrow, Karda and more... they are good people and glad to help in any way I can. Blessings to you Cate and it is sooo nice to meet you. You're a sweetheart!

Thanks for the information, lady.

I do not belong to Facebook but I do look at some You Tube links. Mainly old Wagon Train and Rawhide shows! I am showing my age here! I look at some old political links, old speeches, gun politics especially in the RKBA movement, old news shows and homesteading links on there too. I used to do a ton of research in the past and I still do online and with hard copy books too.

I read many, many forums in specific subject matters and have done that since the late 90's. I read some that I do not belong to and some that I no longer post on too. It depends on the forum.

I will check out the rest of your thread and the rest of the forum here.

It turns out that my husband knows about a BUNCH of knives that I have no clue about other than some from that old gun forum, his small collection, some from my late husband, late Dad, older brother, etc.

Thank you.

Cate

Here is a video I just made about an hour ago about knives and edc.. (got my hair cut and fixed today too..woohoo! Thanks God! I have an interview Tuesday with the producer of Wendy Williams show..so it was last minute! They are starting a show that is like Jesse Ventura..they are interviewing me for the part of a Christian Conspiracy Theorist, just like Ventura, but with a prophecy twist...I would get to fly all over the world and go places and interview people for the show..it would air all over regular tv, everywhere... Would be awesome! Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for me that the interview goes well!) Anyways, back on topic, i have included discussion and photos of ancient knives..in fact, one they just discovered in the USA that is thousands of years old. I think you will all love this short video I did! I had BF in mind as well as EDCF forums. I hope you like it! It's about knives, edc and preparedness..because people don't think ahead. They get stuck somewhere and have nothing at all to help them out of their situation or to survive. We see this all the time. I hope you like it, Catherine. Blessings to you!
