I think regardless of gender if someone plans on carrying a knife for self defense they should be educated in how to use it as such. Otherwise it could do more harm than good. As to the specific subject of women and knives? I cant think of a single reason why a woman shouldnt consider it as a hobby. What I think the world really needs though? More female knife makers.
what do you mean by blade? shape, type, whole knife iteself? Anyways...
I recommend a karambit.
The most useful, and universal bladeshape in my opinion. Theyre absolutely awesome.
Emerson combat karambit is hard to beat.
Wow, thanks so much EyeDog. How kind of you to take the time to leave some positive feedback! It is much appreciated! I just saw a sweet looking Buck folder on a Buck Knife forum..it was a beauty! If you go to my profile and the recent comments area, or whatever it is called, you will see my comment there, thus you will see the knife..it's red. If you go look, tell me what you think. I think it would ALSO be a great knife for a woman to carry.
You will like the Emerson knife, I think and check out a Sodbuster or a jack-knife too.
Bought a couple of Bucks this weekend on the forum.
See my PM.

Hey Matt..that is sooo sweet! What a wonderful message to leave. That is inspiring to see such a young couple so happy and good to each other. Wow! Amazing! (assuming you are young...babies, college..etc) God bless both of you in all your endeavors and may He also bless your little ones and protect them. I too love the EDC forums and this blade forum here. A lot of good, genuine people. A great outlet for the love of knives and for the people who share the same interest.Nice to meet you and welcome to the forums.
My wife is appreciates my hobby as well. She has grown to appreciate my making of knives (attempting) at home and primarily customizing knives and making handles of various exotic and man made materials.
She loves the Manix 2 LW I gave her for valentines day last year. She loves that for EDC, some minor food prep and lots of garden work in the spring with me. And in her pack when she goes to college during the day. She also has thing for her japenese knife set for the kitchen.
She is a gorgeous hard working woman. Even after taking care of babies (myself), college, work and all the hard work at home we share. I still get help making handles and she enjoys some belt sanding and router work.
Not sure where I would be with out her.
Last night she wanted to share some of her favorite chris reeve folders with me. Discussing a few of her favorite that she may want to surprise me with at some point. OMG am I excited.
I am selling my only high end folder next week to fund her replacement wedding band to match a nice blue and diamond ring I gave her on mothers day last year.
Should be ready for out third anniversary on the 21st of this month.
Nice to have you on the forums. Looking forward to seeing you around!
Matt

I agree..I can't stand winter! And thank you for your words...you've blessed me! I have four kids, so I completely understand how much time is involved. I work at home on the internet, so thanks to God I don't have to take them to daycare anymore.. a true blessing. What part of the states are you from? Sounds like you live somewhere in my neck of the woods.Thank you for the kind words. You seem like a really cool down to earth person.
We are pretty young. She just turned 28 and I am only 6 months behind. Two little girls here. I talk about my family alot one here. That is #1 to me even if it gets redundant. We certainly share some hard times too. But when we get to spend quality time together it is priceless.
This place has given me alot of knowledge. It is great to unwind on here and it gives me something to do while she does her college work later at nite. We are really due for some quality time together. I am looking forward to your family road trip to virginia in may to visit her cousin and family for a graduation and reunion.
I just want this winter to be over so we can enjoy the great outdoors with the kids. Cant keep them out in this weather for too long at a time.
Tomorrow when I pick up the little ones from daycare/ learning center I have a new ta-bogon I picked them up to try with me. This snow we are getting will benefit that for sure.
Take care!
Matt
Totally agree that more women need to carry a blade. My wife has her CCW and carries something that goes bang everyday along with her spyderco delica 4 and an izula. She uses them at work everyday and loves them both.
Never thought of a female having a knife as sexy.
There is really nothing manly about knives. It is all entirely in people's heads.
Living in Oregon, there are plenty of women who hunt Elk and Deer (among other animals), and they also carry knives and guns. I know quite a few who own AR-15s as well (which is ridiculously shocking to a lot of people).
When someone has an interest in something, the lamest thing to do is tell them they shouldn't because it would make them fall out of a stereotype.
I say break the mold.
