It's a 2 nails knife with the pièmontais system, it's the "lens" that allows to open the knife with one hand and according to the grip to block the opened blade with a finger

Thanks Gary! Looks like Corto_Malt Corto_Malt beat me to the explanation.

I find myself using the inexpensive knives a lot and don't feel guilty about modifying them. I don't think you need to do anything to this one!

Much better picture of the twisted metal 'tab' than I have. Moing does excellent work!! You have quite a collection of beautiful knives!
Thanks, Corto_Malt Corto_Malt and Steve, for explaining about the metal I noticed on Steve's knife a week or two ago. I wasn't sure if it was part of an "extended tang" on a friction folder (like on a higonokami) or if it was a "decorative element" (like the fly/bee on a Laguiole). Your answers clearly show that it's the former. :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I always love seeing that Taramundi of yours, GT! The wood on it is really cool. (The first few times I saw you post it, I actually thought it was some sort of tortoise shell.)

Thanks, Barrett. :) I wish Taramundi knives were easier to acquire. I wouldn't mind having a couple of more.
The blade shape on your Langres actually reminds me of the blade on my Taramundi, and I really like it. Beautiful burl on your knife!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Splendid pic of a very cool knife, Todd! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: My daughter got me an Opinel very similar to that in Spain, but mine has wild boars on it. Maybe I should make sure to select Arkansas in the March Madness pools! 🤓 Barrett, you'd probably advise me to do so, right?

That's an incredibly handsome Buck 500! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

My only lumber-laden knife this week is a rosewood Böker Magnum scout (thanks, Greg):

Thanks, GT. There are several of those reasonably priced European brands that I wish were more readily available here.

Definitely, GT! 😎 Although keep in mind, that bet hasn’t paid off since 1994 (and they haven’t made the Final Four since ‘95). 😉

I noticed a while back that they changed the designs on that “Animalia” line of Opinels. I don’t like the new ones nearly as much as the ones like yours and Todd’s. 😕

Love that one, Todd! 👍🏻
Thanks Jim. 😊
Nice Buck Jim. I went back and double checked this time! 🤣

Barrett, have you been carrying that 6-pack of commemorative Coke around for more than a quarter century?!? That's really cool! :cool::thumbsup: 🤓 One of my favorite Sports Illustrated covers of all time is from 1978 with Sidney Moncrief of Arkansas going up for what looks like it will be a vicious 2-handed tomahawk dunk, with the ball cocked way back behind his head. When I first saw the cover, I thought, "This has to be a posed photo. That couldn't possibly be going down in an actual collegiate game!" I just didn't realize how good players were becoming.

I hadn't noticed the change in that line of Opinels, and I agree with you that the change is NOT an improvement! :( My boars have kind of goofy looks on their faces, but I prefer having the detailed depictions of the animals so I can notice that goofiness to the animal silhouettes and some "habitat" on the new models.
